i‐Tac: Inverse Design of 3D‐Printed Tactile Elastomers with Tuneable Optical and Mechanical Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Inspired by the multi‐tissue architecture of the human fingertip dermis (A), this work introduces a mixture design using three PolyJet materials (AC/TM/GM) to expand the achievable elastomer property space (B). An inverse design pipeline (i‐Tac) is developed to map target optical/mechanical requirements to optimal material compositions (C), enabling ...

Development of a mouldable and resorbable bone filler

open access: yes, 2012
The purpose of this study was to develop a resorbable, mouldable bone filler that can be used to repair damaged bone. Work was focused on the use of the resorbable polymer poly DL lactide (PDLLA). The ideal formulation was to be hand mouldable and thus the initial step was to carry out a plasticization study on the polymer.

Injectable Bone Cements: A Generational Framework for Bioactivity, Porosity, and Mechanobiological Design at the Nanoscale

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
Key demographic, biological, and material considerations that drive the need for advanced injectable bone cement technologies. Injectable bone cements (IBCs) are widely used in orthopaedic and craniofacial applications due to their minimally invasive delivery and ability to provide early mechanical stabilisation.

A Fully Polymeric Mouldable Microfluidic Device. Part 1: The Process of Design

open access: yesMacromolecular Materials and Engineering, 2011
AbstractMicrofluidic devices as used, e.g., in lab‐on‐a‐chip and micro‐total‐analysis systems, are frequently fabricated using silicon or polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)‐based technologies, both with their known disadvantages. Here, we design a fully polymeric, multifunctional microfluidic reactor device, using an alternative fabrication method, the two ...

The impact of the current student loans regime on Muslim student engagement and retention in English higher education

open access: yesBritish Educational Research Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract There is much interest in the potential for an alternative funding system for higher education students in England to support the spiritual and worldly needs of British Muslim students. At the heart of this issue lies a tension over whether the student financing system in English HE is haram, or forbidden under Islamic (Shari'ah) law, because ...

A roadmap to key traits of invasive Drosophilidae

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Biological invasions have intensified in recent decades, mostly driven by international trade and travel, raising significant concerns, particularly regarding insect pests. Once non‐native species establish, they can disrupt natural ecosystem stability, undermine agroecosystem sustainability and cause substantial economic losses.

From Compliance to Circularity: A Design‐Led Approach to Recyclable Packaging

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The transition to recyclable packaging is a strategic priority for the Fast‐Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) sector, aligning with the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). Adapting to regulatory uncertainty and integrating evolving recyclability criteria require not only technical innovation but also organisational transformation ...
