A Female‐Locust‐Inspired Hybrid Soft‐Stiff Robotic Digger: Mimetics and Implications for Digging Efficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Female desert locusts dig underground to lay their eggs. They displace soil, rather than removing it, to create a tunnel. We analyze burrowing dynamics and 3D kinematics and design a locust‐inspired hybrid soft–stiff robot that reproduces this mechanism. The results show the natural strategy minimizes energy, whereas alternative patterns raise costs up

Microrobotic Catheterization of the Ophthalmic Artery for Targeted Treatment of Retinoblastoma

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
A microrobotic platform is presented that allows teleoperated and autonomous navigation of flow‐driven magnetic microcatheters, MagFlow, into the ophthalmic artery for superselective intra‐arterial infusion of chemotherapy to treat retinoblastoma. Extensive benchtop validations with patient‐derived biomimetic phantoms under optical and fluoroscopic ...

Kinetics of Gas Emission from Heated Moulding Sands Together with the On-line Assessment of H2 and O2 Fractions - New Investigation Method

open access: yesArchives of Foundry Engineering, 2016
The new investigation method of the kinetics of the gas emission from moulding sands used for moulds and cores is presented in this paper. The gas evolution rate is presented not only as a function of heating time but also as a function of instantaneous ...

Worm‐Inspired Soft Robots With Modular Outfit‐Changing for Intelligent Multienvironment Adaptation

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This study proposes a worm‐inspired soft robot capable of locomotion across multiple environments through a modular “outfit‐changing” strategy. The robot integrates pneumatically actuated peristaltic segments with interchangeable external modules, enabling efficient motion on ground surfaces, within pipelines, through granular media, and underwater ...

Development tendencies of moulding and core sands

open access: yesChina Foundry, 2011
Further development of the technology for making moulding and core sands will be strictly limited by tough requirements due to protection of the natural environment. These tendencies are becoming more and more tense, so that we will reach a point when even processes, that from technological point of view fulfill high requirements of the foundry ...

Improved Dry‐Pressing Strategy for Fabricating Double‐Sided Rough YSZ Electrolyte Thin Films and Their Performance in Solid Oxide Cells

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study addresses limitations of the conventional dry‐pressing method for electrolyte‐supported films—smooth surfaces, excessive thickness, and fragile supports inducing damage. We propose an innovative camphor–quartz sand composite architecture to construct a five‐layer (camphor/quartz sand/YSZ/quartz sand/camphor) system, enabling thin ...

Inter‐microscope comparability of dental microwear texture data obtained from different optical profilometers: Part II Deriving instrument‐specific correction equations for meta‐analyses using published data

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Dental microwear texture analysis (DMTA) has emerged as a valuable method for investigating the feeding ecology of vertebrates. Over the past decade, three‐dimensional topographic data from microscopic regions of tooth surfaces have been collected, and surface texture parameters have been published for both extant and fossil species.
