Thermogenesis‐derived spatiotemporal microclimates guide pollinator movement to ensure pollination

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Alocasia odora's microclimatic heterogeneity guides Colocasiomyia fly movement within its inflorescence. During the female stage, midday heat in the upper spadix pushes flies down to the cooler female zone. During the male stage, nocturnal warmth in the upper part pulls flies upward and spathe constriction closes the lower female chamber.

Morphological notes on the mouthparts of decapod crustacean larvae, with emphasis on palinurid phyllosomas [PDF]

open access: yes
Some topics in the morphological study of mouthparts of decapod larvae, consisting of labrum, mandible, paragnath (= labium) and maxillule, are briefly reviewed. The morphological features of larval mouthparts are compared topographically in main decapod

OsMYB306‐OsRAV11 Regulates Resistance of Rice to Striped Stem Borer by Modulating Serotonin Biosynthesis

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Striped stem borer (SSB; Chilo suppressalis Walker) is one of the most destructive pests in rice production. Previous studies have demonstrated that SSB infestation induces transcription of OsT5H (tryptamine‐5‐hydroxylase) and biosynthesis of serotonin, a newly recognised phytohormone, and that disruption of serotonin biosynthesis ...

Adaptation of the mouthparts in some subterranean Cholevinae (Coleoptera, Leiodidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004

Sensilla Morphology and Complex Expression Pattern of Odorant Binding Proteins in the Vetch Aphid Megoura viciae (Hemiptera: Aphididae)

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2018
Chemoreception in insects is mediated by several components interacting at different levels and including odorant-binding proteins (OBPs). Although recent studies demonstrate that the function of OBPs cannot be restricted to an exclusively olfactory role,

A Repertoire of Major Genes From Crop Wild Relatives for Breeding Disease‐Resistant Wheat, Rice, Maize, Soybean and Cotton Crops

open access: yesPlant Breeding, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Global food demand is predicted to rise anywhere from 59% to 98% by 2050 because of increasing population. However, the continued depletion of natural resources and increasing biotic and abiotic stresses will continue to pose significant threats to global food security in coming years.

Defecation in preparation for ecdysis drives microplastic clearance in cricket nymphs

open access: yesPhysiological Entomology, EarlyView.
In preparation for ecdysis, cricket nymphs cease feeding and gradually clear their gut contents via frass production, which removes most ingested MPs from their digestive tract. Following exoskeletal moulting, the foregut lining, including any remaining MPs, is shed and excreted alongside frass approximately 6 h later.

Population Dynamics of Greenhouse Thrips (Heliothrips haemorrhoidalis) on Avocado Under Single and Combined Predator Releases

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Zoology, Volume 53, Issue 3, September 2026.
The greenhouse thrips, Heliothrips haemorrhoidalis (Bouché, 1833), is an important avocado pest in New Zealand, where repeated infestations reduce leaf quality and tree vigour. To assess biological control stability under different predator assemblages, this study evaluated thrips population dynamics and predator survival across two sequential phases ...
