“Moving History”

Louisville, Kentucky’s Confederate monument first caught my scholarly interest nearly twenty-five years ago because of its context. As I researched my dissertation on Kentucky’s post-Civil War Confederate identity, I paid special attention to the monument as a paeon to the rebel cause in what was, during the Civil War, a decidedly Union city.
