On the Structure of the Moving Finite-element Equations

IMA Journal of Numerical Analysis, 1985
The authors study the so-called moving finite-element method. This method approximates time-dependent partial differential equations by a nonlinear coupled system of ordinary differential equations with a coefficient matrix for the time derivatives. Constructions for the inversion of this matrix are presented and applications to systems of equations ...

Frequency shift in the moving periodic structure

Review of Scientific Instruments, 2008
The interaction between the electromagnetic wave and the moving periodic structure is analyzed. The main physical effect revealed by theoretical analysis is that the frequency shift of the scattered or transmitted mode is proportional to the speed and the mode order m over the period a.

Velocity and structure estimation of a moving object using a moving monocular camera

2006 American Control Conference, 2006
In this paper, we present the development of a vision-based estimator for simultaneous determination of velocity and structure of an object (i.e., the Euclidean position of its feature points) for the general case where both the object and the camera are moving relative to an inertial frame of reference.

Moving sensors in structural dynamics

Sensors and Smart Structures Technologies for Civil, Mechanical, and Aerospace Systems 2020, 2020
In the monitoring of structural systems, the use of multiple high end sensors may prove to be economically prohibitive. The alternative approach would be to use fewer devices that move across the span of the structural system. In the proposed approach, the dynamic of a one-dimensional system is evaluated using a velocity sensor that is able to move ...

Structure of the moving piezoelectric polaron

Physical Review B, 1974
Both the intermediate-coupling theory and a strong-coupling theory appropriate for a moving polaron give an anomalous energy-momentum relation, $E(P)$, for the piezoelectric polaron. This relation starts out quadratic at small $P$, but at large $P$ it asymptotes to a straight line with slope equal to the speed of sound $s$.

Structure of moving domain walls

Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 1995
Abstract The magnetization configuration of moving domain walls is computed for 100 nm thick Permalloy films, and 200 and 1100 nm thick iron films. Changes in the structure, mass and width of the walls as a function of velocity are reported.

Composite Structures Moving in Fluids

2020
Many structures such as ships move in fluids while other structures such as offshore structures are surrounded by moving fluid. In both cases, the structures are subjected to fluid loading and can experience FSI. In addition, the fluid may contain solid objects such as floating icebergs in oceans.
