Identifying the common interaction networks of amoeboid motility and cancer cell metastasis [PDF]

open access: yesNetwork Biology, 2012
The recently analyzed genome of Naegleria gruberi, a free-living amoeboflagellate of the Heterolobosea clade, revealed a remarkably complex ancestral eukaryote with a rich repertoire of cytoskeletal-, motility- and signaling-genes.

Natural movement with concurrent brain-computer interface control induces persistent dissociation of neural activity [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
As Brain-computer interface (BCI) technology develops it is likely it may be incorporated into protocols that complement and supplement existing movements of the user. Two possible scenarios for such a control could be: the increasing interest to control artificial supernumerary prosthetics, or in cases following brain injury where BCI can be ...

Dysfunctional tetraspanin 7 (TSP‐7) in Caenorhabditis elegans promotes; increases in average life‐ & health‐span, stress‐induced survival and motility

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The C. elegans tetraspanin‐7 (tsp‐7) is a homologue of human CD63, which is a negative regulator of autophagy. The C. elegans strain, tm5761, has a dysfunctional (knockout) tsp‐7 gene. When compared to the wild‐type strain, the tm5761 strain shows increased: life‐ and health‐span; thermotolerance, and stress‐induced locomotion.

Flexible discrete space models of animal movement [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
Movement drives the spread of infectious disease, gene flow, and other critical ecological processes. To study these processes we need models for movement that capture complex behavior that changes over time and space in response to biotic and abiotic factors. Penalized likelihood approaches, such as penalized semiparametric spline expansions and LASSO

Enhancing transporter activity in heterologous expression systems with SAHA: a 2500‐times more potent and odorless alternative to butyrate

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Heterologous expression of membrane transporters in cultured cells is essential for functional characterization, but is sometimes limited by low activity. Our study compares the HDAC inhibitors butyrate, VPA and SAHA to enhance transport activity. We propose to replace butyrate by SAHA: it is equally effective, devoid of repulsive odor, costs less, and
