Controlling Velocity in Rapid Movements

Journal of Motor Behavior, 1986
It has often been reported that subjects prefer to use a strategy in which they vary movement velocity and peak amplitude in a linear fashion. In this study, control of velocity and amplitude in rapid reciprocating movements of the interphalangeal joint of the thumb was investigated by examining movement trajectories and patterns of activity in the ...

Striatonigral control of movement velocity in mice

European Journal of Neuroscience, 2016
The basal ganglia have long been implicated in action initiation. Using three-dimensional motion capture, we quantified the effects of optogenetic stimulation of the striatonigral (direct) pathway on movement kinematics. We generated transgenic mice with channelrhodopsin-2 expression in striatal neurons that express the D1-like dopamine receptor.

Study on the Velocity of Saccadic Eye Movements

2005
The velocity of eye movements can be measured by using the corneo-retinal potential of the eyeball. This potential is changed almost in proportion to the eccentricity of the eyeball, and we analyze the detailed motion of the eyeball. Particularly, we measured the velocity of the horizontal saccadic eye movements. Then, we obtained the useful results by

Velocity curves of human arm and speech movements

Experimental Brain Research, 1987
The velocity curves of human arm and speech movements were examined as a function of amplitude and rate in both continuous and discrete movement tasks. Evidence for invariance under scalar transformation was assessed and a quantitative measure of the form of the curve was used to provide information on the implicit cost function in the production of ...

Speaking Rate and Speech Movement Velocity Profiles

Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, 1993
The effects of speaking rate on the velocity profiles of movements of the lower lip and tongue tip during the production of stop consonants were examined using an x-ray microbeam system. Five young adults used a magnitude production task to produce five speaking rates that ranged from very fast to very slow.

Computerized study of the velocity of the rapid eye movements

Clinical Otolaryngology, 1984
The average velocity-amplitude characteristics of rapid eye movements (voluntary saccades, and fast phases of caloric and optokinetic [OKN] nystagmus) in normal humans were analyzed with an analogue-digital computer and compared among them. For the same amplitude of movement the velocity of the saccades is considerably greater than that of the fast ...

Velocity and Force of Some Karate Arm-movements

Nature, 1966
A SPECIAL aspect of Karate (a Japanese technique of self-defence and, in competitions, a game with very strictly regulated rules in which the partners are not allowed to strike each other) can sometimes be seen as a demonstration: the Karateka breaking bricks, tiles or blocks of wood with a strike of his bare hands, feet, fingers or forehead1, the ...

Saccadic Movements: A camputerized study of their velocity and latency

Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1983
The mean velocity of the eye during the execution of a voluntary saccade can reach levels close to 400 degrees/sec, for amplitudes of 40 degrees. However, during the execution of these saccades, there are moments in which the eye develops velocities superior to 500 degrees/sec.

CXI. The “ Velocity ” of Brownian movement

The London, Edinburgh, and Dublin Philosophical Magazine and Journal of Science, 1950
Abstract The notion of the velocity of the random movement of a particle and the problem of its observation is discussed in view of certain incorrect statements in a recent paper by D. K. C. MacDonald.

Histogram of oriented velocities for eye movement detection

Proceedings of the Workshop on Modeling Cognitive Processes from Multimodal Data, 2018
Research in various fields including psychology, cognition, and medical science deal with eye tracking data to extract information about the intention and cognitive state of a subject. For the extraction of this information, the detection of eye movement types is an important task.
