When a Movement Is Not a Movement
Nova Religio, 2011This article examines the influence of the Hindu teacher Ramana Maharshi on Neo-Advaita groups in North America. These groups constitute a growing segment of North America’s liberal spirituality subculture and bear witness to the transposability of the Maharshi’s teachings and the portability of his method of self-inquiry into non-Indian cultural ...

Using probabilistic movement primitives for striking movements
2016 IEEE-RAS 16th International Conference on Humanoid Robots (Humanoids), 2016Due to its strong requirements in motor abilities, robot table tennis is an important test bed for new robot learning approaches. Learning approaches have to generalize a complex hitting behavior from relatively few demonstrated trajectories, which neither cover all ball trajectories nor all desired hitting directions.

Peripheral Movement, Induced Movement, and Aftereffects from Induced Movement
Perception, 1981Substantial rotatory induced movement and aftereffects associated with induced movement were observed in a large static patterned disc bounded at its periphery by a rotating patterned annulus. The area of the annulus was less than one tenth that of the disc, so its peripheral location seemed to be important in eliciting these phenomena.

Medical Clinics of North America, 2003
Movement disorders are commonly encountered in clinical practice. The diagnosis of movement disorders relies on a focused history and neurologic examination. Diagnostic steps include (1) identification of the phenomenology of the movements (eg, tremor); (2) characterization of appropriate clinical syndromes; and (3) differential diagnosis of specific ...

Temporal Characteristics in Apparent Movement: Omega Movement vs. PHI Movement
Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology, 1973A vertical line stimulus was presented alternately at two positions on an oscillo scope face, with no interstimulus interval. Observation of this stimulus produced haphazard alternation between a number of movement percepts, which were divided into four categories: phi, omega and partial movement, and no movement.

Journal of Neurology, 1991
Movement is preceded, accompanied and followed by reactions which give to the primary action its correct execution and ensure that the body's axis, together with the limbs, maintains the right balance. If these reactions are interfered with, incoordination of movement, lack of balance, hypertonia or dystonia may all appear.

Abnormal Movements and Movement Disorder Urgencies
Medical Clinics of North AmericaMovement disorder urgencies present as an acute-to-subacute-onset primary movement disorder. Emergencies can lead to patient morbidity or mortality if not readily recognized. Many of these presentations have no standard diagnostic criteria or definitive laboratory tests, and thus relying on phenomenology is a clinician's best way to approach these ...
