MLSEB: Edge Bundling Using Moving Least Squares Approximation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Edge bundling methods can effectively alleviate visual clutter and reveal high-level graph structures in large graph visualization. Researchers have devoted significant efforts to improve edge bundling according to different metrics. As the edge bundling family evolve rapidly, the quality of edge bundles receives increasing attention in the literature ...

FGFR Like1 drives esophageal cancer progression via EMT, PI3K/Akt, and notch signalling: insights from clinical data and next‐generation sequencing analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Clinical analysis reveals significant dysregulation of FGFRL1 in esophageal cancer (EC) patients. RNAi‐coupled next‐generation sequencing (NGS) and in vitro study reveal FGFRL1‐mediated EC progression via EMT, PI3K/Akt, and Notch pathways. Functional assays confirm its role in tumor growth, migration, and invasion.

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Decomposition Least-Squares-Based Iterative Identification Algorithms for Multivariable Equation-Error Autoregressive Moving Average Systems

open access: yesMathematics, 2019
This paper is concerned with the identification problem for multivariable equation-error systems whose disturbance is an autoregressive moving average process. By means of the hierarchical identification principle and the iterative search, a hierarchical

The skills required for transition to university and study in biological sciences: A student perspective

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioscience students were asked for their opinions on the value and teaching of skills. 204 responded that teamwork, time management and study skills are necessary to reach University, that scientific writing, research, laboratory and presentation skills are taught effectively during their studies, while other skills are gained inherently through study ...

On the Development of a Metamodel and Design Support Excel Automation Program for Offshore Wind Farm Layout Optimization

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2021
In this study, a metamodel of an optimal arrangement of wind turbines was developed to maximize the energy produced by minimizing the energy loss due to wakes in a limited space when designing a wind farm.

Linear least squares estimation of the first order moving average parameter [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We propose an iterative procedure to minimize the sum of squares function which avoids the nonlinear nature of estimating the first order moving average parameter and provides a closed form of the estimator.

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Consistency approach and diffuse derivation in element free methods based on moving least squares approximation

open access: yesComputer Assisted Methods in Engineering and Science, 2023
The paper concerns shape functions formulations in the scope of the recent methods generalizing finite elements and whose common feature is the absence of a mesh.

A least-squares implicit RBF-FD closest point method and applications to PDEs on moving surfaces

open access: yes, 2019
The closest point method (Ruuth and Merriman, J. Comput. Phys. 227(3):1943-1961, [2008]) is an embedding method developed to solve a variety of partial differential equations (PDEs) on smooth surfaces, using a closest point representation of the surface ...
