Women who experienced spousal bereavement in the early middle ages faced various socio‐economic and legal ramifications; the ‘widow’ was further a rhetorical figure with a defined emotional register. The widower is, by contrast, an anachronistic category.

ABSTRACT We study how auditors prioritize tasks and how variations in task order influence auditors' performance. Drawing on conservation of resources theory, we develop and test our hypotheses through three experiments involving over 350 professional auditors.
