Scientists' warning to humanity on tree extinctions

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 5, Issue 4, Page 466-482, July 2023., 2023
Trees play vital roles in many of the world's ecosystems while providing many benefits to people. New evidence indicates that a third of tree species are threatened with extinction, representing a tree extinction crisis. Here we demonstrate how tree species extinction will lead to the loss of many other plants and animals and significantly alter the ...

Pesticide effects on soil fauna communities—A meta‐analysis

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 60, Issue 7, Page 1239-1253, July 2023., 2023
Our study highlights that pesticide use has significant detrimental non‐target effects on soil biodiversity, eroding a substantial part of global biodiversity and threatening ecosystem health. This provides crucial evidence supporting recent policies, such as the European Green Deal, that aim to reduce pesticide use in agriculture to conserve ...

What feeds on Quercus ilex L.? A biogeographical approach to studying trophic interactions in a Mediterranean keystone species

open access: yesDiversity and Distributions, Volume 28, Issue 1, Page 4-24, January 2022., 2022
Abstract Aim Holm oak (Quercus ilex L.) is regarded as a keystone plant species. Trophic interactions may affect the distribution and abundance of phytophagous species, but the number of arthropod species that use holm oak as a food resource and their levels of host specificity are not yet known.

Ups and downs of belemnite diversity in the Early Jurassic of Western Tethys

open access: yesPalaeontology, Volume 64, Issue 2, Page 263-283, March 2021., 2021
Abstract Although belemnites form a major clade of extinct cephalopods, the early stage of their diversification remains poorly known in time and space. Here we investigate the first diversification episodes of belemnites (order Belemnitida) using a new species‐level database encompassing the Hettangian–Aalenian interval (Early Jurassic – earliest ...

A validated photonumeric scale for infraorbital dark circles and its application in evaluating the efficacy of a cosmetic treatment product in a split‐face randomized clinical trial

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, Volume 43, Issue 1, Page 48-56, February 2021., 2021
A 10‐point photonumeric scale was created, with corresponding descriptors and images for each grade of the scale. The scale has been rigorously validated and used in a split‐face randomised clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy of a cosmetic treatment product over 8 weeks.
