A Bespoke Programmable Interpenetrating Elastomer Network Composite Laryngeal Stent for Expedited Paediatric Laryngotracheal Reconstruction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A programmable interpenetrating double‐network architecture, created via 3D‐TIPS printing and resin infusion, synergistically combines thermoplastic and thermosetting elastomers to balance structural rigidity and surface softness—crucial for paediatric laryngeal stents.

MOFs and COFs in Electronics: Bridging the Gap between Intrinsic Properties and Measured Performance

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs) hold promise for advanced electronics. However, discrepancies in reported electrical conductivities highlight the importance of measurement methodologies. This review explores intrinsic charge transport mechanisms and extrinsic factors influencing performance, and critically ...

Intergranular fracture, grain-boundary structure, and dislocation-density interactions in FCC bicrystals

open access: yesScientific Reports
A dislocation-density based crystalline plasticity (DCP) and nonlinear finite element (FE) analysis were used to predict, and fundamentally understand how and why fracture nucleation and propagation are related to the interrelated microstructural ...

Rapid Sintering of Porous Organic Polymer Powders Into Mechanically Strong Monoliths for Efficient CO2 Capture

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Spark plasma sintering enables rapid processing of porous organic polymer (POP) from fine powders to a freestanding and mechanically robust monolith. The sintering process retains the CO2 adsorption capacity and CO2/N2 selectivity, making the monolith more suitable as a solid sorbent for practical carbon capture applications.

Nucleosynthesis Conditions in Outflows of White Dwarfs Collapsing to Neutron Stars

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
An accretion-induced collapse (AIC) or merger-induced collapse (MIC) of white dwarfs (WDs) in binary systems is an interesting path to neutron star (NS) and magnetar formation, alternative to stellar core-collapse and NS mergers.

A Termite‐Inspired Alternative to Cement

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A termite‐inspired composite of clay, cellulose, and lignin forms a dense fibrous network with concrete‐like strength (32 MPa) and superior elasticity, processed at ambient temperature. Abstract Clay combined with organic materials is used by termites as a strong and durable construction material for their mounds with minimal environmental impact. Here,
