Patch Decoder-Side Depth Estimation In Mpeg Immersive Video
ICASSP 2021 - 2021 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP), 2021This paper presents a new approach for achieving bitrate and pixel rate reduction in the MPEG immersive video coding setting. We demonstrate that it is possible to avoid the transmission of some depth information in the Test Model for Immersive Video (TMIV) by estimating it at the receiver's side.

MPEG immersive video (MIV) is a novel standard, enabling the compression of volumetric video content. In this chapter, we describe MIV, its tools, and its profiles. Given that MIV is a video-based solution, the texture and geometry information is coded using available 2D video codecs, which are independent of MIV. We present the performance of MIV with

Simplified carriage of MPEG immersive video in HEVC bitstream
Applications of Digital Image Processing XLIV, 2021Immersive video enables end users to experience video in a more natural way interactively with viewer motion from any position and orientation within a supported viewing space. MPEG Immersive Video (MIV) is an upcoming standard being developed to handle the compression and delivery of immersive media content.

Depth Patch Selection for Decoder-Side Depth Estimation in MPEG Immersive Video
2022 Picture Coding Symposium (PCS), 2022The MPEG immersive video (MIV) standard has been developed to efficiently compress volumetric video content and enable an immersive user experience. MIV deals with an enormous amount of data that comes in the form of multi-view plus depth videos, which is efficiently reduced in the process of pruning, by tackling the redundancies among the views.

Immersive visual media — MPEG-I: 360 video, virtual navigation and beyond
2017 International Conference on Systems, Signals and Image Processing (IWSSIP), 2017In this paper we consider immersive visual media that are currently researched within scientific community. These include the well-established technologies, like 360-degree panoramas, as well as those being intensively developed, like free viewpoint video and point-cloud based systems.

DATRA-MIV: Decoder-Adaptive Tiling and Rate Allocation for MPEG Immersive Video
ACM Transactions on Multimedia Computing, Communications and ApplicationsThe emerging immersive video coding standard moving picture experts group (MPEG) immersive video (MIV), which is ongoing standardization by MPEG-Immersive (MPEG-I) group, enables six degrees of freedom in a virtual reality environment that represents both natural and computer-generated scenes using multi-view video compression.
