QA of MR-linac

2023
MR-linacs have been implemented in the past with the capability to perform online adaptive radiotherapy. Because of the hybrid nature of an MR-linac, an adaptation of previous quality assurance (QA) procedures for conventional linacs is required in combination with new procedures for the imaging component.

Considerations for MR-linac bunker shielding design

Biomedical Physics & Engineering Express, 2023
Abstract Purpose. To show the considerations followed for MR-linac in shielding design for the first MR-linac in Mexico following the national clinical necessities. Method. The National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP) 151 recommendations were followed for the shielding design for primary and ...

Small‐field output factor dependence on the field size definition in MR‐Linac

Medical Physics (Lancaster)
Radiation beam characteristics are primarily evaluated based on field size. However, in small fields, especially with magnetic fields used in new technology (MR‐Linac), the field size definition is altered. Typically, field size is defined by two methods:

Real-time motion monitoring using orthogonal cine MRI during MR-guided adaptive radiation therapy for abdominal tumors on 1.5T MR-Linac.

Medical Physics (Lancaster), 2023
BACKGROUND Real-time motion monitoring (RTMM) is necessary for accurate motion management of intrafraction motions during radiation therapy (RT). PURPOSE Building upon a previous study, this work develops and tests an improved RTMM technique based on ...

Towards adaptive IMRT sequencing for the MR-linac

Physics in Medicine and Biology, 2015
The MRI linear accelerator (MR-linac) that is currently being installed in the University Medical Center Utrecht (Utrecht, The Netherlands), will be able to track the patient's target(s) and Organ(s) At Risk during radiation delivery. In this paper, we present a treatment planning system for intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT).

MRI-based ventilation and perfusion imaging to predict radiation-induced pneumonitis in lung tumor patients at a 0.35T MR-Linac.

Radiotherapy and Oncology
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Radiation-induced pneumonitis (RP), diagnosed 6-12 weeks after treatment, is a complication of lung tumor radiotherapy. So far, clinical and dosimetric parameters have not been reliable in predicting RP.

WE-B-BRD-01: MR-LINAC

Medical Physics, 2015
The use of MRI in radiation therapy is rapidly increasing. Applications vary from the MRI simulator, to the MRI fused with CT, and to the integrated MRI+RT system. Compared with the standard MRI QA, a broader scope of QA features has to be defined in order to maximize the benefits of using MRI in radiation therapy.

Geometric distortion caused by metallic femoral head prosthesis in prostate cancer imaging on an MR linac: in-vivo measurements of spatial deformation.

British Journal of Radiology
OBJECTIVES Metallic implants cause artefacts and distortion on MRI. To ensure accurate dose delivery and plan adaptation on an MR Linac, there is a need to evaluate distortion caused.

Beam modeling and validation for a 1.5 T MR-linac in an alternative treatment planning system

Physics in Medicine and Biology
Objective. MR-guided adaptive radiotherapy (MRgART) is ideally suited to adjust the treatment plan for anatomical changes. The online nature of MRgART involves multiple process steps during each treatment fraction, which may greatly benefit from ...
