Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Paradoxical Increase in Left Ventricular Outflow Tract Gradient in a Patient Undergoing Mitral Valve Repair and Septal Myectomy

open access: yesAnnals of Cardiac Anaesthesia
The Doppler-derived gradient depends on the magnitude of the flow across a narrowed orifice and the alignment of the Doppler with the flow. Septal myectomy is indicated in symptomatic obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) patients with peak ...

Finishing store lambs from organic hill and upland farms OF0119 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
1. The aim of this study was to assess the economics and constraints associated with home finishing lambs on a range of organic hill and upland farms in England and Wales, and to evaluate the potential for further finishing on registered farms in the ...

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

A Bidirectional Causal Relationship between Headache and IgA Nephropathy: Evidence from a Genetic Study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Pain

Dynamic contrast-enhanced MR and PET/CT findings of uterine sarcomatoid carcinoma: a case report

open access: yesBMC Women's Health, 2020
Background Sarcomatoid carcinoma (SC) is a malignant tumour composed of spindle cells. The incidence of SC is low, especially in the uterus. The imaging features of uterine sarcomatoid carcinoma (USC) are rarely reported.

Bipolar-Driven Large Magnetoresistance in Silicon

open access: yes, 2013
Large linear magnetoresistance (MR) in electron-injected p-type silicon at very low magnetic field is observed experimentally at room temperature. The large linear MR is induced in electron-dominated space-charge transport regime, where the magnetic ...

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).
