MR-Compatible Compression Device for In-Vitro Evaluation of Biomechanical Properties of Cartilage

open access: yesJournal of Biomechanical Science and Engineering, 2008
Objective: Purpose of the paper is to present and validate a device for cartilage compression for assessment of MR parameters (T1, T2, ADC) in cartilage explants before, during and after compression operating with novel features. Design: This device fits

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

PARP inhibitors elicit distinct transcriptional programs in homologous recombination competent castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.

Integrated optimization of geometrical parameters and flow variables for industrial incinerator performance improvement

open access: yesResults in Engineering, 2023
Industrial incinerators play a vital role in waste disposal, yet their operations carry significant environmental and efficiency consequences. The current study aimed to optimize an industrial incinerator using a multi-objective algorithm in which the ...

Social consequences of Tūhoe migration: Voices from home in Te Urewera [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A previous study by Nikora, Guerin, Rua & Te Awekotuku (2004) of the social consequences of Tūhoe moving to the Waikato region found employment and a tertiary education to be the primary motivators.

Bipolar-Driven Large Magnetoresistance in Silicon

open access: yes, 2013
Large linear magnetoresistance (MR) in electron-injected p-type silicon at very low magnetic field is observed experimentally at room temperature. The large linear MR is induced in electron-dominated space-charge transport regime, where the magnetic ...

Investigating the cell of origin and novel molecular targets in Merkel cell carcinoma: a historic misnomer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study indicates that Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) does not originate from Merkel cells, and identifies gene, protein & cellular expression of immune‐linked and neuroendocrine markers in primary and metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) tumor samples, linked to Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) status, with enrichment of B‐cell and other immune cell

Multimodality MRI Radiomics Based on Machine Learning for Identifying True Tumor Recurrence and Treatment-Related Effects in Patients with Postoperative Glioma

open access: yesNeurology and Therapy, 2023
Introduction Conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features have difficulty distinguishing glioma true tumor recurrence (TuR) from treatment-related effects (TrE).

Large negative magnetoresistance in a ferromagnetic shape memory alloy : Ni_{2+x}Mn_{1-x}Ga

open access: yes, 2005
5% negative magnetoresistance (MR) at room temperature has been observed in bulk Ni_{2+x}Mn_{1-x}Ga. This indicates the possibility of using Ni_{2+x}Mn_{1-x}Ga as magnetic sensors. We have measured MR in the ferromagnetic state for different compositions

Magnetorheological landing gear: 1. A design methodology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Aircraft landing gears are subjected to a wide range of excitation conditions, which result in conflicting damping requirements. A novel solution to this problem is to implement semi-active damping using magnetorheological (MR) fluids.
