Modeling of an Adaptive Beam with MR Fluid
Solid State Phenomena, 2009This paper is devoted to modeling of a three-layered cantilever beam filled with magnetorheological (MR) fluid. The beam consists of two aluminium outer layers and an MR fluid layer placed between them. The study covers description of MR fluid behavior in the pre-yield regime, analysis of strain and internal forces, formulation of differential ...

Thixotropy of MR shear-thickening fluids
Smart Materials and Structures, 2010Particle sedimentation is a key issue of conventional magnetorheological (MR) fluids. We recently fabricated MR shear-thickening fluids (MRSTF), which can work as novel MR fluids without particle settling. This merit of the material against particle settling is attributed to the thixotropy property.

CFD Study of the Flow of MR Fluids
2014In this chapter, the authors explain a systematic CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) procedure by outlining the apparent viscosity model that is used in the fluid flow calculations. The calculations involving the Bingham fluid in flow mode are carried out across a wide range of field-induced material properties, and the selection of flow conditions ...

ER fluids and MR materials: Basic properties and some application developments
2003Magnetorheological (MR) and electrorheological (ER) fluids belong to a family of controllable fluids, in which the flow can be controlled through the application of an electric or magnetic field. The rheological properties of controllable fluids typically depend on the concentration and density of particles, particle size and shape distribution ...
