Two basic approaches to adaptive signal processing are in common use. The first and most direct involves substituting data-derived estimates of signal and noise autocorrelations into the standard Wiener-Hopf equation. The second uses a stochastic algorithm, such as the LMS, to minimize the mean square error directly.

Infusing MSE Topics into Non-MSE Curricula: A Multidisciplinary Effort
MRS Proceedings, 2000ABSTRACTFaculty members at the authors' institution are involved in multidisciplinary materials research through a National Science Foundation funded center. One goal of this center is to empower materials education through the incorporation of research outcomes into the undergraduate and graduate curricula.

Efficient use of SATCOM resources in MSE networks (DAMA for MSE)
Proceedings of MILCOM '93 - IEEE Military Communications Conference, 2002The evolving AirLand Operations (ALO) concept of force deployment in the tactical arena significantly alters requirements for command, control, and communications. Communications must be maintained between widely separated groups of users (enclaves) who cannot be adequately serviced by traditional terrestrial networks.

The question of using the mean squared error (MSE) measure as a quality criterion in image processing is addressed. The MSE was evaluated as a measure of perceived similarity between an original and processed picture by comparing computed MSE values with similarity judgements.

MSE routing algorithm comparison
IEEE Military Communications Conference, 'Bridging the Gap. Interoperability, Survivability, Security', 2003The US Army's Mobile Subscriber Equipment (MSE) communications system uses a flood search algorithm for routing calls. This procedure automatically finds alternate paths to the call destination during the search and requires only a directory of local subscribers to be maintained at each node.
