A step into the shadows: Evolutionary shifts in fruit structure and dispersal strategies in Asian mycoheterotrophic Ericaceae

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
This study examines how the fruits of non‐photosynthetic forest plants in the Monotropoideae (Ericaceae) have evolved into the diversity observed today. By analyzing four Asian species, we identified a shift from dry, dehiscent fruits that release seeds into the air to fleshy, berry‐like fruits adapted for animal dispersal.

Exploring eco‐evolutionary and temporal patterns of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal communities colonizing Sorghum bicolor across sites of contrasting land use history and climate

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Sorghum bicolor is a globally important cereal crop with annual yields exceeding 50 million tons across more than 100 countries and can be grown on marginal lands where conventional agriculture is limited. We examined how eight genetically diverse sorghum genotypes shaped arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal (AMF) community assembly across two contrasting ...

Genotype‐by‐environment interaction informs selection for seed physiological quality and stink bug tolerance in soybean under pest management contrasts

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Genotype‐by‐environment interaction shaped soybean seed stability under contrasting insecticide regimes. Seed longevity emerged as a stable, management‐relevant trait under pest pressure. High‐pressure, no‐insecticide conditions improved discrimination of tolerant genotypes for integrated pest management deployment.

Differential regulation of macrophage scavenger receptor isoforms: mRNA quantification using the polymerase chain reaction

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1995
There are two isoforms of the macrophage scavenger receptor (MSR I and II). Both are expressed on macrophages and mediate internalization of oxidized lipoproteins and several other ligands.

Urinary symmetric dimethylarginine: A promising biomarker for acute kidney injury in dogs with pyometra

open access: yesVeterinary Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Symmetric dimethylarginine (SDMA) is a biomarker of renal function derived from arginine methylation, unaffected by muscle mass or diet, and increases after only a 25% reduction in renal function, allowing earlier detection of renal dysfunction compared with serum creatinine.

Quality indicators for structure and process in peri‐operative care: a systematic review

open access: yesAnaesthesia, EarlyView.
Summary Introduction Quality indicators are essential for benchmarking, quality assurance and driving improvement in healthcare. Many indicators exist for peri‐operative care but their relevance and evidence base vary. This systematic review updates a review published 10 years ago.

Platelet function in patients undergoing major non‐cardiac vascular surgery (PLUGS): a prospective cohort study*

open access: yesAnaesthesia, EarlyView.
Summary Introduction Patients who require major vascular surgery often receive antiplatelet therapy for primary or secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease. Clopidogrel resistance and variability in platelet recovery after drug discontinuation pose clinical challenges, particularly for regional anaesthesia and blood management.
