Shallow magma pathway geometry at Mt. Etna volcano [PDF]

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, 2008
A fundamental goal of volcano seismology is to understand the dynamics of active magmatic systems in order to assess eruptive behavior and the associated hazard.

Interaction of volcano-tectonic fault with magma storage, intrusion and flank instability: A thirty years study at Mt. Etna volcano

open access: yesJournal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research, 2013
We investigated the relationship between the occurrence of earthquakes along the main volcano-tectonic structures and periods of volcanic unrest at Mt Etna.

Dynamics of the eastern flank of Mt. Etna volcano (Italy) investigated by a dense GPS network

open access: yesJournal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research, 2006
Mount Etna has developed at the intersection of two regional tectonic lineaments, the NNW–SSE trending Hybleo–Maltese escarpment, which separates the thick inland continental crust of the African platform from the Ionian Mesozoic oceanic crust, and the

Mt. Etna: Volcano Laboratory

2004
In this paper we describe the experiences and results gained in the use of tiltmeters at Mt. Etna during the last twenty years. The tilt data represent a fundamental contribution to understanding of volcanic phenomena. Moreover, the tilt played an important role in analytic modelling, of the sources linked to the most important recent lateral eruptions.

Repeating volcano-tectonic earthquakes at Mt. Etna volcano (Sicily, Italy) during 1999–2009

Gondwana Research, 2013
Abstract Repeating volcano-tectonic (VT) earthquakes, taking place at Mt. Etna during 1999–2009, were detected and analyzed to investigate their behavior. We found 735 families amounting to 2479 VT earthquakes, representing ~ 38% of all the analyzed VT earthquakes. The number of VT earthquakes making up the families ranges from 2 to 23.

Anomalies of seismic wave propagation at Mt. Etna Volcano, Italy

Journal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research, 2000
Abstract Macroseismic and instrumental data concerning earthquakes that occurred in the Etnean area during 1978–1987 have been used to reveal the possible anomalies in the propagation of seismic waves in the shallowest part of the volcanic edifice. A set of 134 shocks located in different sectors of the volcano and having a depth not exceeding 5–8 ...

Multi-hazard assessment at Mt. Etna volcano, Italy

2022
<p>The effects of volcanic hazards can be quantified by applying new methods to provide support for rational decision-making. Mt Etna is one the most active volcanoes in the world, producing both effusive and explosive eruptions together with a very intense seismic activity, which significantly affect the territory and human society.

Mt. Etna volcano: A seismological framework

2004
Mount Etna is one of the most active and powerful basaltic volcanoes in the world, with an historical record of documented eruptions going back over 2000 years. It is located in eastern Sicily in a complex geodynamic framework, where major regional structural lineaments play a key role in the dynamic processes of the volcano [e.g., Bonaccorso et al ...
