Advances in mucogingival surgery.

open access: yesJournal of the International Academy of Periodontology, 2000
The term Mucogingival Surgery was proposed by Friedman in 1957 to indicate any surgery "designed to preserve attached gingiva, to remove frena or muscle attachment, and to increase the depth of the vestibule". The aim of this type of surgery was to maintain an adequate amount of attached gingiva and to prevent continuous loss of attachment.

30 Years of Enamel Matrix Derivative (EMD): Biological Foundations and Systematic Review With Meta‐Analyses Across Multiple Clinical Indications

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
EMD is one of the few biological agents with human histologic evidence supporting periodontal regeneration. This is reflected in improved clinical outcomes when used in regenerative surgery for intrabony defects. Despite its biological plausibility for broader therapeutic applications, further high‐quality randomized clinical trials are needed to ...

Root coverage stability with acellular dermal matrix in multiple gingival recessions in esthetic zone: A clinical case report with 12-year follow-up

open access: yesJournal of Indian Society of Periodontology, 2019
The importance of surgical intervention for the maintenance of long-term results by root coverage of multiple gingival recessions in an esthetic area treated with a tissue substitute (acellular dermal matrix [ADM]-Alloderm®) is widely required.

Peri‐Implant Soft‐Tissue Phenotype Modification for Refractory Peri‐Implant Mucositis: A 12‐Month Prospective Clinical Study With Ultrasonographic Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
Surgical treatment of refractory peri‐implant mucositis with a free gingival graft (FGG) was effective in disease resolution, achieving reductions in probing pocket depth (PPD) and inflammation. Significant gains in mucosal thickness (MT) and keratinized mucosa width (KMW), as well as partial recession coverage and re‐establishment of attached mucosa ...

Human gingival fibroblasts culture in an autologous scaffold and assessing its effect on augmentation of attached gingiva in a pilot clinical trial [PDF]

open access: yes
BACKGROUND AND AIM: An important goal of periodontal plastic surgery is the creation of attached gingiva around the teeth. In this study, the aims were to culture gingival fibroblasts in a biodegradable scaffold and measure the width of attached gingiva ...

Keratinized Mucosa Width and Incidence of Peri‐Implant Diseases: A Systematic Review With Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Periodontal Research, EarlyView.
This systematic review and meta‐analysis of 12 cohort studies (2646 implants), the first restricted to cohort studies on this topic, found no association between keratinized mucosa and peri‐implant mucositis, but lower peri‐implantitis incidence in implants with keratinized mucosa (> 0 mm) and width ≥ 2 mm, supporting its consideration in risk ...

The Effect of Partially Exposed Connective Tissue Graft on Root‐Coverage Outcomes: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
