Study on mud discharge after emergency disconnection of deepwater drilling risers
Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, 2020Abstract Mud is often discharged into seawater after emergency disconnection of risers in offshore oil and gas drilling engineering. The discharged mud needs to be simulated accurately since it can produce a huge load on risers. Several mud discharge models have been proposed, such as Young's slug model, SFM model, WFC model and one-dimensional ...

Design and research on internal mud discharge device of jacket platform legs
International Conference on Sensors and Instruments (ICSI 2021), 2021During the disposal of the abandoned jacket platform, all steel piles within 4 meters below the mud surface of the seabed must be removed. In the process of disposing of steel piles using the internal cutting method, it is necessary to drain the mud inside the legs.

Methane discharge from a submarine mud volcano - A multiple-method approach
OCEANS 2008, 2008Submarine methane discharge manifests in different forms and occurs on different spatial scales. Physical, biological and geochemical processes interact at the seafloor. Comprehension and description of such complex systems requires a suite of different sampling and in situ measurement technologies.

Flocculation and the Fate of Drill Mud Discharges
Estuarine and Coastal Modeling (2001), 2002Flocculation of the fine particulate portion of drilling mud during discharge into the ocean provides a pathway for an impact on the benthic environment in that the higher settling velocity of flocculated particles leads to higher concentrations near the sea floor.

Pulsed oil discharge from a mud volcano
Geology, 2000In this paper we document instances where change in the magnitude of natural oil seepage coincided with fluctuations of fluid temperature in a seafloor mud volcano. Oil slicks were detected floating near commercial oil fields in the northern Gulf of Mexico in a time series of six satellite synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images collected over a 10 month

Deep gases discharged from mud volcanoes of Azerbaijan: New geochemical evidence
Marine and Petroleum Geology, 2013This paper presents new geochemical data of hydrocarbon-rich gases released from some mud volcanoes of Azerbaijan. Methane is considerably the most abundant component of all the sampled gases, which show ?D-CH4 and ?13C-CH4 values likely related to a dominant thermogenic source.

The Generic Mud Concept for NPDES Permitting of Offshore Drilling Discharges
Journal of Petroleum Technology, 1985Summary U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 11 granted the first offshore drilling National Pollution Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits to the Mid-Atlantic operators in 1978. The generic or standard mud concept was developed by the Offshore Operators Committee with EPA Region 11 to provide ...

Origin of fluids discharged from mud volcanoes in SE Iran
Marine and Petroleum Geology, 2019Onshore and offshore mud volcanism in the Makran accretionary prism is related to convergence of the Arabian and Eurasian plates. This study describes the chemical and isotopic composition of hydrocarbon-rich fluids from four active on-shore mud volcanoes located along the Makran coast (southern Iran), namely Borborok, Ain, Napag and Sand Mirsuban ...
