2005Due to the occurrence of mud volcanoes and active seismic areas in close proximity in Romania, good conditions can be found for studying the relationship between the two phenomena. The most important earthquakes are generated within the Vrancea zone, related to a lithospheric fragment sunken into the astenosphere.

Mud volcanoes in deepwater Nigeria
Marine and Petroleum Geology, 2000Abstract Detailed study of 3D seismic data from deepwater Nigeria has revealed the presence of features interpreted to be mud volcanoes. They occur in an upper slope environment seen as 1–2 km circular features at the seabed. Seabed cores from the mud volcanoes contain oil, gas and sand/shale–clast content richer than the seabed background.
