Creativity Skills Applied to Earth Science Education: Examples from K-12 Teachers in a Graduate Creativity Class [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
NOTE: This is a large file, 10.7 mb in size! This article briefly explores different aspects of creativity, and then examines K-12 teachers' reactions to exercises applied to earth science concepts in a graduate creativity class.

Optimal mud pressure design using nonlinear failure criteria for wellbores in shaley sedimentary reservoir

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The present study uses the Modified Mohr‐Coulomb true‐triaxial failure criterion (MMC_TT), which predicts the strength of rock better than the MGC criterion in laboratory true‐triaxial tests to overcome the limitations. Moreover, based on the data from previously published five vertical wells in the Krishna‐Godavari basin (K‐G basin), an empirical ...

Reviews on the Properties of Aggregates made with or without Geopolymerisation Method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Aggregates are popular for use in concrete and lightweight concrete applications. Recent research shows that the by-product materials such as fly ash can be used as raw material in producing aggregates and lightweight aggregates.

Surface hydration‐induced damage in tight oil‐bearing sandy conglomerate reservoirs

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
A series of techniques such as X‐ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy‐dispersive spectroscopy, conductivity tests, and infrared thermal imaging were used. The key findings are the identification of a two‐stage surface hydration process and the elucidation of the effects of various minerals and elements on the hydration process ...

Evidence From Microscopy and U–Pb Geochronology as a Clue to the Influence of the Cretaceous Magmatism in the Diagenesis of Pre‐Salt Carbonate Reservoirs in the Santos Basin (Brazil)

open access: yesGeological Journal, EarlyView.
Carbonates from Santos Basin revealed U–Pb ages correlated with basalt ages (A), suggesting that they were formed during magmatic events. These events placed hot CO2 in the reservoir, which, when mixed with carbonate‐rich cold water (B), led to thermal convection, enabling the formation of the U contained in the carbonates.

Monitoring methane emission of mud volcanoes by seismic tremor measurements: a pilot study [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, 2012
A new approach for estimating methane emission at mud volcanoes is here proposed based on measurements of the seismic tremor on their surface. Data obtained at the Dashgil mud volcano in Azerbaijan reveal the presence of energy bursts characterized by ...

Mud extrusion dynamics constrained from 3D seismics in the Mercator Mud Volcano. El Arraiche mud volcano field, Gulf of Cadiz [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Located on the western Moroccan continental shelf of the Gulf of Cadiz, the Mercator Mud Volcano (MMV) is one of a total of eight mud volcanoes which compose the El Arraiche mud volcano field. We collected a high-resolution P-cable 3D seismic cube during

Transcription, signaling receptor activity, oxidative phosphorylation, and fatty acid metabolism mediate the presence of closely related species in distinct intertidal and cold-seep habitats [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Bathyal cold seeps are isolated extreme deep-sea environments characterized by low species diversity while biomass can be high. The Hakon Mosby mud volcano (Barents Sea, 1,280 m) is a rather stable chemosynthetic driven habitat characterized by prominent
