Sporadic Appetites: Unearthing the Fungal Diets of Two Mycophagous Mammals Across an Australian Climate Gradient

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 6, June 2026.
This study investigated the fungal dietary preferences of boodies and woylies across Mediterranean, semi‐arid and arid regions of Australia using DNA metabarcoding of scat samples, providing a comprehensive molecular characterisation of mycophagous feeding patterns for these species across broad climate gradients.

Migration speed, timing, and long‐term shifts in age structure in North American passerines during fall migration

open access: yesEcography, Volume 2026, Issue 6, June 2026.
Migration is challenging for birds, especially juveniles, who experience high mortality rates during migration. The challenge is exacerbated in the Anthropocene, contributing to widespread population declines. Conservation efforts focused on increasing juvenile survival could bolster population recovery.

Chiral supramolecular electronics for high‐efficiency circularly polarized organic light‐emitting diodes

open access: yesFlexMat, Volume 3, Issue 2, Page 327-330, June 2026.
This perspective highlights supramolecular strategy for achieving band‐level chirality in vacuum‐deposited triazatruxene thin films, enabling circularly polarized organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs) with both high dissymmetry factor and external quantum efficiency, thereby overcoming the longstanding efficiency‐dissymmetry trade‐off in circularly ...

Improving Microbial Quality of Ostrich Meat Using Mechanically Deboned Chicken Meat Protein Nanocomposite Coating Incorporated With Ziziphora clinopodioides Essential Oil and Eugenol During Cold Storage

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2026.
Nanocomposite coatings based on mechanically deboned chicken meat protein incorporated with nanoclay, Ziziphora clinopodioides essential oil, and eugenol effectively improved the microbial quality, safety, and sensory attributes of refrigerated ostrich meat.

Antimicrobial and Nutritional Properties of Edible Oyster Mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus) Extracts Against Foodborne Pathogens Relevant to Maternal and Child Malnutrition in Africa

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2026.
Somali Pleurotus ostreatus was extracted with water and ethanol and evaluated for nutrition, antibacterial activity, GC–MS profile, and molecular docking. The mushroom was rich in protein, fiber, iron, and zinc, while the ethanolic extract showed stronger moderate in vitro inhibition of selected foodborne pathogens than the aqueous extract.

Agarose‐Based Films Enriched With Ascorbic Acid for Inhibiting Enzymatic Browning and Extending the Shelf Life of Fresh‐Cut Apples

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 6, June 2026.
To prevent enzymatic browning and quality loss in freshly cut apples, ascorbic acid‐enriched agarose films have been developed as biodegradable active packaging materials. Structural analyses confirmed that ascorbic acid was successfully incorporated into the polymer matrix, yielding compact, homogeneous films with improved physicochemical properties ...
