Mueller matrices in fluorescence scattering

Optics Letters, 2012
A reappraisal of the 1929 analysis of luminescence by Soleillet reveals the form of the Mueller matrix for fluorescence scattering whose parameters are directly defined in terms of the now-familiar fluorescence anisotropy parameter. If the scattering analyte is optically active, it is further shown how fluorescence detected circular dichroism and ...

Polarimetric subtraction of Mueller matrices

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2013
A general formulation of the additive composition and decomposition of Mueller matrices is presented, which is expressed in adequate terms for properly performing the "polarimetric subtraction," from a given depolarizing Mueller matrix M, of the Mueller matrix of a given nondepolarizing component that is incoherently embedded in the whole system ...

Measurement of Mueller matrices

Applied Optics, 1992
A technique that allows Mueller matrix components to be measured and involves the use of two phase modulators instead of the usual method that uses four modulators is discussed. It allows true matrix components to be measured instead of the ratio of sums of matrix components, which are measured using a single modulator.

Explicit algebraic characterization of Mueller matrices

Optics Letters, 2014
A general explicit algebraic characterization of Mueller matrices is presented in terms of the non-negativity of a set of leading principal minors of the coherency matrix C(A) associated with the arrow form M(A) of a given Mueller matrix M. This result is also formulated through a set of four characteristic Stokes vectors.

Serial–parallel decompositions of Mueller matrices

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2012
The algebraic methods for serial and parallel decompositions of Mueller matrices are combined in order to obtain a general framework for a suitable analysis of polarimetric measurements based on equivalent systems constituted by simple components. A general procedure for the parallel decomposition of a Mueller matrix into a convex sum of pure elements ...

Characteristic properties of Mueller matrices

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2000
A complete and minimum set of necessary and sufficient conditions for a real 4 x 4 matrix to be a physical Mueller matrix is obtained. An additional condition is presented to complete the set of known conditions, namely, the four conditions obtained from the nonnegativity of the eigenvalues of the Hermitian matrix H associated with a Mueller matrix M ...

Poincaré sphere mapping by Mueller matrices

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2013
By using the symmetric serial decomposition of a normalized Mueller matrix M [J. Opt. Soc. Am. A 26, 1109 (2009)] as a starting point and by considering the reciprocity property of Mueller matrices, the geometrical features of the Poincaré sphere mapping by M are analyzed in order to obtain a new parameterization of M in which the 15 representative ...
