MUF upgrading and phenol substitution by tannin in PMUFs
Holz als Roh- und Werkstoff, 1996A commercial melamine-urea-formaldehyde resin was upgraded by addition of 4% and 6% modified quebracho tannin extract directly in the glue mix. The glue mixes were used to prepare beech and okoume 7-ply exterior grade plywood.

Glutaraldehyde-modified MUF adhesive system – Improved hot water resistance
Holz als Roh- und Werkstoff, 2006It was shown that addition of glutaraldehyde to a commercial MUF resin results in increased hot water resistance. Glutaraldehyde-blended resin is reactive towards wood constituents, thus adhesive-wood interactions improve its performance. 90% increase in shear strength of the bondline as well as increased percentage of wood failure from 10 to 85%
