This study is aimed at exploring the extent to which EFL students use AI in academic writing and the positive and negative effects of AI usage on academic writing in a long‐term context. An explanatory research design was implemented in this study. This study involved 167 EFL undergraduate students from a university in Central Java, Indonesia.
