MULLITIZATION OF KAOLINITE*

Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 1948
A bstract The thermal behavior of kaolinite was studied by electron microscopy and X‐ray diffraction. This study has shown that hexagonal‐shaped particles persist far above the dehydration temperature of kaolinite.

Thermal Degradation of Fiber Coatings in Mullite‐Fiber‐Reinforced Mullite Composites

Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 1997
The thermal degradation behavior of single‐layer BN and of double‐layer BN/SiC chemically vapor‐deposited fiber coatings in mullite‐fiber‐reinforced mullite composites was investigated by means of transmission electron microscopy after processing and heat treatment of the composites at 1000°, 1200°, and 1300°C for 6 h in air.

Processing of diphasic mullite and mullite-alumina composite precursors

2021
Diphasic mullite and mullite-alumina composite precursors were prepared from the silica source (Na2SiO35H20) (a cheap industrial by-product) and the alumina source (AlCl36H2O) by a coprecipitation method (aluminium nitrate and colloidal silica were used to prepared mullite-alumina composite precursor as a comparison), aiming to understand the mullite ...

Sintering of Mullite

1978
Despite technological importance, limited information is available on the correlation of major processing variables with the sintering behavior and microstructure development of aluminum silicates containing mullite as the principal phase. Recent studies illustrate the excellent mechanical properties of mullite and the importance of controlled ...

Fracture toughness and creep of mullite and mullite based composites

2014
Mullite is considered a promising candidate for ceramic recuperators in turbo propelled engines, due to its low thermal conductivity, adequate thermal shock resistance, low cost, low density, thermodynamic stability, and reasonable strength at high temperatures.
