Relation between porosity‐based and crystal‐based femtosecond laser‐induced nanogratings in oxide glasses

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Glass Science, Volume 17, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Femtosecond laser irradiation in glass, under controlled conditions, can induce two types of nanogratings (NG): porous nanogratings (pNG) and crystal/glass nanogratings (cNG). While most glasses exhibit only one type, binary aluminosilicate glasses have shown both types of NG.

A Review on Synthesis of Mullite Ceramics from Industrial Wastes

open access: yesRecycling, 2019
Some industrial wastes are shown to be useful in the production of mullite ceramics. These industrial wastes are rich in certain metal oxides such as silica (SiO2) and alumina (Al2O3).

Apatite-mullite glass-ceramics

open access: yesJournal of Materials Science: Materials in Medicine, 1993
Two series of fluoro-alumino-silicate glasses, one with varying phosphate content (P2O5) and one with fixed phosphate content and varying fluorite (CaF2) content have been investigated as potential bioglass-ceramics. Compositions with intermediate phosphate contents that contained fluorite crystallized to fluoroapatite and mullite.

Optimization of interfaces in ceramics with SiC addition engineering for thermal cycling implications

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 109, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract This study investigated how SiC PSD influences solid–solid interface to enhance thermal–mechanical properties of ceramic composites. Initial SiCmp particles were milled for 3 h at 200 rpm (microns) and 600 rpm (submicrons) to tune the PSD, and their impact was evaluated in cordierite–mullite matrix, sintered at 1360°C.

Influence of Thermal Treatment on Kankara Kaolinite [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In this work, the influence of thermal treatment on the structure of Kankara kaolinite was studied for the first time, using X-ray diffractogram (XRD), EDX, NanoSEM, FTIR-Attenuated Total Reflectance, DTA/TGA and BET surface area measurements.

Mullite production by valorization of a hydrodesulphurization catalyst waste

open access: yesJournal of the American Ceramic Society, Volume 109, Issue 1, January 2026.
Due to its high alumina and silica content, Ni–Mo catalyst waste is a suitable, amorphous raw material for producing aluminosilicate phases. Thermal treatment of the waste at 1200°C for 30 min yields a material containing 50 wt.% mullite and exhibiting 96% overall crystallinity. The addition of amorphous silica significantly enhances mullite formation:

Ancient tin production: Slags from the Iron Age Carvalhelhos hillfort (NW Iberian Peninsula) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Provenance and production of tin in the Ancient World has since long been a major topic of discussion among archaeologists. In Western Europe, where significant tin ore (cassiterite) deposits are known, only a few remains of ancient tin production, such ...
