Effects of in situ synthesized mullite whiskers on compressive strength of mullite fiber brick
Ceramics International, 2016Abstract The method of in situ synthesis of mullite whiskers by gas-phase deposition and reaction was applied to improve the compressive strength of the mullite fiber brick. During the preparation process, silica sol, Al(NO 3 ) 3 solution and NH 4 F solution were introduced into the fibrous brick in the form of ions or sol through vacuum ...

Ceramics International, 2019
Abstract High-strength insulating ceramic materials were prepared using lightweight mullite microspheres with dense surfaces and high internal porosity as the main raw material and silica sol as a binder. The effects of AlF 3 ·3H 2 O content on the in situ formation and growth of mullite whiskers were analyzed by X-ray diffraction and scanning ...

Development of techniques for the production of nickel reinforced with mullite whiskers
Soviet Powder Metallurgy and Metal Ceramics, 19681. An examination was made of several techniques for the production of nickel reinforced with randomly-distributed mullite (3Al2O3 · 2SiO2) whiskers. The infiltration technique was found to be unsuitable because of the absence of wetting between nickel and mullite and the transformation of needle-shaped mullite into equiaxedα-Al2O3 grains.

Preparation and Morphology of Mullite Whiskers by Sol-Gel Method
Key Engineering Materials, 2007Mullite whiskers were prepared by sol-gel method. The preparing conditions, the morphology and crystallite phase of the mullite whiskers were studied by Thermal analysis, XRD and SEM. The results demonstrate that the uniform mullite whiskers with high aspect ratio were obtained in properly preparing conditions and appropriate amount of fluorides.

High temperature performance of mullite whisker-reinforced ZTA
Journal of Composite Materials, 2016In this work, an oxide-based ceramic matrix composite (CMC) consisting of a zirconia toughened alumina (ZTA) matrix and reinforced with mullite whiskers is produced with the purpose of providing more oxidation resistance and cost-effective alternative to covalent discontinuously reinforced ceramics.

Mullite whiskers derived from coal fly ash
Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2007Abstract Alumina-deficient (Al2O3/SiO2 = 1.12, molar ratio), orthorhombic mullite whiskers with a diameter of 0.6–1.8 μm (aspect ratio >30) have been manufactured by firing compacts of coal fly ash and NH4Al(SO4)2·12H2O powders, with a small addition of NaH2PO4·2H2O, at 1300 °C for 10 h. The manufacturing process, the morphology, and structure of the

Fabrication and Characterization of Mullite Whisker-Reinforced Porous Refractory
Key Engineering Materials, 2007The Al2O3-mullite system porous refractories were fabricated, and then pretreated by sol-gel. The samples were sintered at 1200°C for 3 hours. The microstructures and phases of the samples were analyzed by SEM and XRD respectively. The physical properties of the samples were measured according to National Standard of Refractory.
