Probing the modal characteristics of novel beam shapes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In this thesis, an investigation into the modal characteristics of novel beam shapes is presented. Sculpting the phase profile of a Gaussian beam can result in the generation of a beam with unique properties.

Edge-Deployed AI Optimizing Fractional Frequency Reuse in Multibeam Satellite System

open access: yesIEEE Open Journal of the Communications Society
The integration of native artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) capabilities into the radio access network (RAN) is rapidly emerging as a key enabler for scalable, adaptive and context-aware resource management in non-terrestrial networks ...

Uniform Amorphization of Crystalline Silicon Surfaces Enabled by Deep Ultraviolet Femtosecond Laser Pulses

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Deep‐UV (258 nm) femtosecond pulses enable uniform amorphous silicon writing on Si(100)/(111) with a six‐fold larger fluence amorphization window than NIR methods. Optimized fluence and overlap yield 20–45 nm uniform and continuous amorphous layers. Microscopy shows sharp interfaces, and real‐time reflectivity reveals nanosecond melt–resolidification ...

A Multi‐Scale Machine Learning Framework for the Inverse Design of High Entropy Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐entropy alloys offer vast potential for various applications, including electrocatalysis; however, their compositional complexity challenges conventional screening. We introduce an inverse‐design framework combining two neural networks to determine optimal compositions and reconstruct nanoparticle geometry from targeted properties and conventional

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Seismic strengthening of beam-column joints with multidirectional CFRP laminates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
An experimental program was carried out to analyse the potentialities of a technique based on the use of multidirectional CFRP laminates (MDL-CFRP) for the seismic repair and strengthening of reinforced concrete (RC) beam-column joints. This experimental

Intermediate Resistive State in Wafer‐Scale Vertical MoS2 Memristors Through Lateral Silver Filament Growth for Artificial Synapse Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In MOCVD MoS2 memristors, a current compliance‐regulated Ag filament mechanism is revealed. The filament ruptures spontaneously during volatile switching, while subsequent growth proceeds vertically through the MoS2 layers and then laterally along the van der Waals gaps during nonvolatile switching.

Beam steering by digital micro-mirror device for multi-beam and single-chip lidar

open access: yes, 2018
A novel method of beam steering, utilizing a mass-produced Digital Micromirror Device (DMD), enables a reliable single chip Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) with a large field of view while having minimum moving components. In the single-chip LIDAR, a
