Homogeneous and heterogeneous multi-core fibers

2012 IEEE Photonics Society Summer Topical Meeting Series, 2012
Reduction of inter-core crosstalk in uncoupled multi-core fibers (MCFs) is the most critical issue for long-haul space division multiplexing transmission. In homogeneous MCFs, the crosstalk is degraded as increasing a bending radius. On the other hand, in heterogeneous MCFs, the crosstalk can be drastically reduced when a bending radius is larger than ...

Multi-core fiber undersea transmission systems

2017 European Conference on Networks and Communications (EuCNC), 2017
Various potential architectures of branching units for multi-core fiber undersea transmission systems are presented. It is also investigated how different architectures of branching unit influence the number of fibers and those of inline components.

Simple Multi-core Optical Fiber Accelerometer

Advanced Photonics 2018 (BGPP, IPR, NP, NOMA, Sensors, Networks, SPPCom, SOF), 2018
We report on a compact accelerometer built with strongly coupled multi-core optical fiber. The device was placed in cantilever position. An ultra-miniature seismic mass was used to tune the device sensitivity and operating frequency range.

Multi-core to 7 single-core-fibers fan-out device with multi-core fiber pigtail connector

SPIE Proceedings, 2014
Multi-core to 7 single-core-fibers fan-out device with multi-core fiber pigtail connector is demonstrated to apply various types of multi-core fiber based sensor. Fused taper type fan-out device and SC type multi-core fiber connector are separately fabricated on each process. The fan-out device and the pigtail multi-core fiber are spliced each other by

Programmable Gain Equalizer for Multi-Core Fiber Amplifiers

Optical Fiber Communication Conference: Postdeadline Papers, 2014
We demonstrate a programmable gain equalizer for 7-core fiber that can independently equalize spectra or block wavelengths in each core across the C-band. It is spliced directly to a side-pumped multi-core amplifying fiber.

A multi-core or multi-fiber WDM System

2012 International Conference on Optical Engineering (ICOE), 2012
Abstract A multi-core or multi-fiber architecture with interleaver at the fiber input and wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) demultiplexer at the fiber output is proposed. In this architecture, different channels of a WDM system are interleaved into different cores of a multi-core fiber, and therefore, the inter-channel nonlinear impairments are ...

Fabrication of fiber-embedded multi-core photonic crystal fibers

Chinese Optics Letters, 2008
A novel fabrication method of multi-core photonic crystal fibers is proposed on the basis of a fiber-embedded technique. A taper tower is used to modify the structures of the fiber preform, and four steps of fiber fabrication and different structures of fiber samples are given. The mode structures and beating characteristics of a photonic crystal fiber

Recent Progress on Multi-Core Fiber and Few-Mode Fiber

Optical Fiber Communication Conference/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference 2013, 2013
This paper reviews research activities concerning multi-core fiber, few-mode fiber and few-mode multi-core fiber. The characteristic of the 12-core fiber that was used for the first 1-Pb/s/fiber transmission experiments is presented.

All-Fiber Phase-locked Multi-core Photonic Crystal Fiber Laser

Advances in Optical Materials, 2011
We propose and demonstrated all-fiber in-phase mode selection in an Yb-doped multi-core photonic crystal fiber laser. A high slope efficiency of 71% and significantly improved beam profile by fill-factor enlargement were achieved.
