High capacity optical transmission technologies in multi-core fiber

In this paper, we propose high capacity transmission technologies based on multi-core fiber (MCF) with both coherent and direct detections. In the coherent detection system, we experimentally demonstrate 560 Tb/s coherent optical dual-polarization DFT-S OFDM 32QAM signal transmission over 10-km single-mode 7-core fiber.

Grating Inscription to Few-Mode Multi-Core Optical Fiber

Preliminary fiber Bragg grating inscription to 2LP-mode 4-core fiber is demonstrated to confirm feasibility for optical fiber sensing application. Clear Bragg reflection spectra for LP01 and LP11 are obtained individually using all fiber-optic few-mode multi-core input/output module.

Beam-Steering All-Optical Switch for Multi-Core Fibers

We report on the development of the first multi-lane all-optical switch with directly integrated multi-core fibers. A 3-port single-sided beam-steering switch connecting 4-core fibers shows core-to-core losses below 2.2 dB with less than 1-dB variation.
