Deep Learning Imaging through Specialty Multi-mode Fibers

Optical Fiber Communication Conference (OFC) 2020, 2020
We demonstrate a cost-effective, highly accurate, and fast-speed cell sensing system enabled by the combination of the disordered optical fiber and the deep-learning classifier. It is compatible with both coherent and incoherent illumination.

A biconical taper multi-mode fiber SERS sensor

Asia Communications and Photonics Conference and Exhibition, 2010
A surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) optical fiber sensor using biconical taper multi-mode fiber (MMF) is proposed. It is fabricated by fused elongating a multi-mode fiber and then coated the silver colloid on its waist. The Raman spectrum for R6G dye solution is measured and the detection sensitivity is 10−9M.

Trench-assisted bend-resistant OM4 multi-mode fibers

36th European Conference and Exhibition on Optical Communication, 2010
The trench-assistance concept has proven its efficiency for bend-insensitive single-mode fibers. Here, we show how it applies to multi-mode fibers for which bend losses can also be significantly decreased while ensuring full compliance with OM3 and OM4 standards.

Multi-mode fibers in compact fiber-based chirped pulse amplification systems

Advanced Solid State Lasers, 2001
The use of multi-mode fibers in compact chirped pulse amplification systems based on passively mode-locked chirped fiber oscillators and chirped periodically poled LiNbO3 is discussed.

Characterization of Mechanically Stressed Multi-Mode Fiber Channels

2019 International Interdisciplinary PhD Workshop (IIPhDW), 2019
The profound understanding of time-variance in an intensity modulation and direct detection system is required for the transmitter and receiver design. In this contribution, two methods for analyzing this time-variance are studied when transmitting through an multi-mode fiber (MMF) channel in conjunction with mode-selective launching.

Nonlinear interference in mode multiplexed multi-mode fibers

2012 IEEE Photonics Society Summer Topical Meeting Series, 2012
We present a method to study the nonlinear interference in mode multiplexed multi-mode fibers by employing a four-wave-mixing based Gaussian-Noise Signal model and investigate its effects on the OSNR.

R=1mm 90°-Bent Multi-Mode Optical Fiber

OFC/NFOEC 2008 - 2008 Conference on Optical Fiber Communication/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference, 2008
We investigated the bending losses and the polarization dependent losses of 90° light beam deflection for multi-mode optical fibers (MMF) using small-radius 90°-bent optical fibers with low refractive index UV curable resin.

Femtosecond laser induced fiber Bragg gratings in active and multi mode fibers

2011 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Europe and 12th European Quantum Electronics Conference (CLEO EUROPE/EQEC), 2011
Active Yb-doped large mode area (LMA) fibers allow for power scaling of lasers with excellent beam quality up to the kW regime [1]. However, the demand for compact, robust and cheap high power sources pushes research towards integrated, monolithic fiber setups. Most prominently, intra-core cavity mirrors can be realized with fiber Bragg gratings (FBG).

Refractive-index-sensing fiber comb using intracavity multi-mode interference fiber sensor

Optical Fibers and Sensors for Medical Diagnostics and Treatment Applications XVIII, 2018
Refractive index measurement is important for evaluation of liquid materials, optical components, and bio sensing. One promising approach for such measurement is use of optical fiber sensors such as surface plasmonic resonance or multi-mode interference (MMI), which measure the change of optical spectrum resulting from the refractive index change ...

OFDM and externally modulated multi-mode fibers in radio over fiber sy

IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, 2006
Performance of wireless local area networks (WLANs) over fiber systems is investigated under multipath fading for different graded index fiber profiles and optical system imperfections. The effect of OFDM cyclic prefix to the multimode fiber dispersion is investigated for the first time.
