Contactless vital signs monitoring based on few-mode and multi-core fibers

open access: yesOpto-Electronic Advances, 2020
Few-mode and multi-core fibers are proposed and demonstrated for contactless vital signs monitoring in this paper. In-line optical fiber interferometers using few-mode and multi-core fibers are designed and offset splicing is utilized for mode excitation.

Multi-mode optical fibers for connecting space-based spectrometers [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Conference on Space Optics — ICSO 2010, 2017
Laser spectral analysis systems are increasingly being considered for in situ analysis of the atomic and molecular composition of selected rock and soil samples on other planets [1][2][3]. Both Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) and Raman spectroscopy are used to identify the constituents of soil and rock samples in situ.

Versatile graded-index multi-mode fiber for high capacity single- and multi-mode optical home network [PDF]

open access: yes2014 The European Conference on Optical Communication (ECOC), 2014
A graded-index multi-mode fiber has been optimized to sustain a single excited mode when coupled with a standard single-mode fiber at 1310/1550nm while offering large effective modal bandwidth at 850nm under VCSEL excitations. Modeling and experimental results are presented.

Expressions for the nonlinear transmission performance of multi-mode optical fiber [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Express, 2013
We develop an analytical theory which allows us to identify the information spectral density limits of multimode optical fiber transmission systems. Our approach takes into account the Kerr-effect induced interactions of the propagating spatial modes and derives closed-form expressions for the spectral density of the corresponding nonlinear distortion.
