Micro-structured optical multi-mode fibers for sensing applications

Micro-Structured and Specialty Optical Fibres VI, 2020
Grating-based Fiber Optic Sensors (FOSs), i.e. relying on Bragg Gratings (BGs), Long Period Gratings (LPGs), Tilted Fiber BGs (TFBGs), have seen a popularity in recent years for sensing applications, however, most of these are inscribed on Single-Mode Fibers (SMFs).

Multi-Mode Fiber-Based Speckle Contrast Optical Spectroscopy: Analysis of Speckle Statistics

Optics Letters, 2022
Speckle contrast optical spectroscopy/tomography (SCOS/T) provides a real-time, non-invasive, and cost-efficient optical imaging approach to mapping of cerebral blood flow. By measuring many speckles (n>>10), SCOS/T has increased signal-to-noise ratio relative to diffuse correlation spectroscopy, which measures one or a few speckles. However, the

R=1mm 90°-Bent Multi-Mode Optical Fiber

OFC/NFOEC 2008 - 2008 Conference on Optical Fiber Communication/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference, 2008
We investigated the bending losses and the polarization dependent losses of 90° light beam deflection for multi-mode optical fibers (MMF) using small-radius 90°-bent optical fibers with low refractive index UV curable resin.

Photobleaching effects in multi-mode radiation resistant optical fibers

2017 17th European Conference on Radiation and Its Effects on Components and Systems (RADECS), 2017
This work investigates radiation induced attenuation under gamma ray exposure in various multimode fibers intended for deployment in CERN accelerators. It reports photobleaching under injection of optical signals and characterizes the signal power influence.

Fully fiber-optic intensity modulator for large-core, high-NA multi-mode fibers

Optical Engineering, 2021
Intensity modulation of broadband optical signals transmitted through large-core fiber-optic cables often resorts to opto-mechanical choppers, usually in the form of bulky rotating wheels. We demonstrate an alternative fiber-optic intensity modulator with a compact footprint of 55.6  ×  12.8  ×  4.6  mm3 that can be integrated in-line in an optical ...

Optical multi-mode fiber link for in-vehicle applications

2018 23rd Opto-Electronics and Communications Conference (OECC), 2018
An optical multi-mode fiber (MMF) has been used as transport media for in-vehicle information network. With increasing of information data, in-vehicle optical communication systems should be necessary to support high speed digital and radio signals.

Ultrafast pulse sources based on multi-mode optical fibers

Applied Physics B, 2000
Ultrafast pulse sources based on multi-mode optical fibers are discussed. High-power passively mode-locked fiber lasers based on multi-mode rare-earth-doped optical fibers greatly exceed the power limitations of single-mode oscillators. Ultrafast multi-mode fiber amplifiers operating in conjunction with multi-mode oscillators provide even higher power ...

Optical Coupling Components for Spatial Multiplexing in Multi-Mode Fibers

37th European Conference and Exposition on Optical Communications, 2011
Space-Division Multiplexing for long distance transmission over multi-mode fibers requires mode-multiplexers with high mode selectivity and capable of exciting all fiber modes in a controlled way. We present an architecture for mode-multiplexers and its experimental demonstration for a three mode fiber.

Multi-mode Optical Fiber Amplifier Supporting over 10 Spatial Modes

Optical Fiber Communication Conference Postdeadline Papers, 2016
We demonstrate a multimode cladding-pumped fiber amplifier that supports 10 modes with 2-dB mode-dependent gain, 20-dB gain, and 25-dBm output power. The mode-dependent gain is minimized using an oversized core supporting additional modes.
