Direct image transmission through a multi-mode square optical fiber

Optics Communications, 1998
Abstract We explore the potential for direct image transmission through a square optical fiber. We show that when an image is sampled appropriately and its optical Fourier transform imaged on the end of a square fiber with perfectly reflecting walls, the components in the Fourier transform excite corresponding fiber modes.

Study of Hologram Multiplexing using Multi-mode Optical Fiber

Journal of the Korean Institute of Illuminating and Electrical Installation Engineers, 2004
We presented the holographic memory system using a multi-mode optical fiber. In this system, we multiplexed multiple holograms using the lights from multi-mode optical fibers as reference beams. The proposed system has two degrees of multiplexing freedom: speckle pattern of light coming from multi-mode fiber and spatial location of multi-mode fibers ...

A novel multi-mode fiber optic accelerometer: an intelligent sensor

Fiber Optic Sensors and Applications XV, 2018
This paper presents an architectural design of a novel intelligent accelerometer sensor, constructed from a multi- mode fiber optic cable, and studied its performances. Experimental proofs are provided to demonstrate that as a multi-mode fiber deforms, variation in the shape and structure of speckle patterns will provide deterministic information for ...

Mode coupling in large-diameter multi-mode silica optical fibers

SPIE Proceedings, 2013
ABSTRACT We report an experimental study on mode coupling in various large-diameter multi-mode silica optical fibers. The evolution of the far-field angular power distribution is experimentally measured, and the mode coupling characteristics are studied on a variety of fibers with diverse parameters, including core/cladding diameter (50-400µm/125-480µm)

Optical Nonlinearity in Multi-Mode Fibers with Random Mode Coupling

European Conference and Exhibition on Optical Communication, 2012
We derive the fundamental equations describing nonlinear propagation in multi-mode fibers in the presence of random mode coupling within quasi-degenerate groups of modes. Our result generalizes the Manakov equation describing mode coupling between polarizations in single-mode fibers.

Analysis of Transmission Characteristics of Multi-mode Optical Fiber Endcap

2018 Asia Communications and Photonics Conference (ACP), 2018
Optical fiber endcap is an important device that can effectively suppress the fiber end face damage caused by high-power laser. Owing to the nonlinear effects, the power of single-mode optical fiber laser is limited by the core size. High-power laser based on multi-mode optical fiber can achieve higher-power. In this paper, transmission characteristics

Equalization via iterative detection in multi-mode fiber optic links

The 17th Annual Meeting of the IEEELasers and Electro-Optics Society, 2004. LEOS 2004., 2004
We propose a novel, ultra-fast, iterative equalizer that has lower complexity than conventional equalizers but has performance that approaches the optimum receiver. Using this technique we demonstrate significantly increased reach for 10 Gb/s over differential modal delay limited multi-mode fiber.

Neural Network Wiretap Code Design for Multi-Mode Fiber Optical Channels

ICASSP 2020 - 2020 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech and Signal Processing (ICASSP), 2020
The design of reliable and secure codes with finite block length is an important requirement for industrial machine type communications. In this work, we develop an autoencoder for the multi-mode fiber wiretap channel taking into account the error performance at the legitimate receiver and the information leakage at potential eavesdroppers.

Stimulated Brillouin scattering in multi-mode optical fibers: Toward plastic-fiber-based BOTDA

2013 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Pacific Rim (CLEOPR), 2013
Based on pump-probe technique (PPT), we observed stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in a 100-m-long silica graded-index multimode optical fiber with the same core diameter as that of a perfluorinated graded-index polymer optical fiber (PFGI-POF) (= 50 μm).

The feasibility of multi-mode fiber based speckle contrast optical spectroscopy

Dynamics and Fluctuations in Biomedical Photonics XVIII, 2021
Speckle contrast optical spectroscopy/tomography (SCOS/SCOT) is a low-cost, non-invasive, and real-time optical imaging modality for measuring cerebral blood flow with increased signal-to-noise ratio relative to diffuse correlation spectroscopy. However, the recent camera-based detector system is not ideal for imaging a large area of the human brain ...
