Advantage of multi-mode sapphire optical fiber for evanescent-field SERS sensing

Optics Letters, 2014
An unclad, multi-mode single crystal sapphire fiber was used as a platform, and immobilized colloidal Ag nanoparticles (NPs) were used as enabler, for evanescent-field fiber-optic sensing via surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) of Rhodamine 6G (R6G) solution.

Optical Frequency Domain Reflectometry for Single- and Multi-Mode Avionics Fiber-Optics Applications

IEEE Conference Avionics Fiber-Optics and Photonics, 2006., 2006
In this talk, we will introduce a commercially available optical frequency domain reflectometry (OFDR) technique and its applications in avionics fiber-optics. We will provide multiple measurement examples within the avionics field not currently supported by conventional test tools or methods including high-resolution fault detection and distributed ...

Optical fiber magnetic field sensor based on multi-mode fiber and core-offset structure

Journal of Modern Optics, 2016
AbstractA magnetic field sensor based on a magnetic fluid (MF)-coated intermodal interferometer is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. It is fabricated by a core-offset structure between two segments of multi-mode fibres (MMF), a spherical structure is formed in the end of the second segment MMF.

Two-dimensional fiber-optic vector vibroscope using only one multi-mode tilted fiber grating

SPIE Proceedings, 2012
Orientation-recognized two-dimensional vibration sensor based on a polarization-controlled cladding-to-core recoupling is demonstrated experimentally. A compact structure in which a short section of multi-mode fiber stub containing a weakly tilted fiber Bragg grating (TFBG) is spliced to another single-mode fiber without any lateral offset.

Pulse-Splitting and Pulse-Locking Dynamics in Multi-Mode Optical Fibers

13th International Conference on Fiber Optics and Photonics, 2016
We study the multimode propagation dynamics in a fiber, observe the pulse-splitting and pulse-locking marked by a significant portion of the LP01-mode pulse moving together with the LP02-mode pulse despite of significant walk-off between them.

Tapered Multi-Mode Fiber for Low Loss Optical Spot Size Demagnification

Optical Review, 1997
Multi-mode tapered fiber has been proposed and demonstrated for demagnifying optical spot size. A loss of less than 5-dB in the conversion of spot size in the range of 400 μm to 125 μm is achieved. The conversion loss dependence on the taper fiber length has experimentally clarified.

Optimized Photodetection And Light Sources For Multi-Mode Fiber Optic Sensors

SPIE Proceedings, 1988
Instrumentation requirements for sensors based on the measurement of light passing through multi-mode fiber optics are discussed. A model is presented which treats the light source, optics, fiber optic sensor, and photodetector as an integrated system regardless of the mechanism of signal transduction, e.g. absorbance, fluorescence, etc.

Multi-Mode Fiber-Based Speckle Contrast Optical Tomography System for Humans

Optica Biophotonics Congress 2025
We developed a high-density speckle contrast optical tomography system based on multi-mode fiber bundles. Measurements at multiple source-detector distances depict pulsatile flow with high SNR through hair on a human head.
