Multi Scale Optimization of Building Energy

2016
This paper is an introduction to smart-energy buildings. It states the user-centric energy management problem and points out how optimization can yield useful feedbacks to occupants. It focuses on the modeling issues and on the different kinds of optimizations useful for providing daily support to occupants. An application example is presented.

Probabilistic multi-scale optimization of hybrid laminated composites

Composite Structures, 2018
Abstract This study presents a hierarchical multi-objective optimization over multiple scales of hybrid laminated composites. The fine-scale optimization problem is treated as a meso-level single-ply representative volume element (RVE) problem or lamina wherein the weave pattern is embedded in a matrix pocket. The weave pattern is the design variable

Multi-scale optimization

2004
Abstract Global optimization problems with so-called ‘rough’ or rugged objective function landscapes are studied. These problems often have many, many stationary points and show considerable differences between small and large-scale geometry. A novel multi-scale global optimization algorithm for solving ‘rough’ objective functions, based on the ...

Multi-scale Optimization for Advanced Energy Processes

2012
Abstract Advanced energy systems demand powerful and systematic optimization strategies for analysis, high performance design and efficient operation. Such processes are modeled through a heterogeneous collection of device-scale and process scale models, which contain distributed and lumped parameter models of varying complexity.

Multi-Scale Topology Optimization With Neural Network-Assisted Optimizer

Volume 2: 42nd Computers and Information in Engineering Conference (CIE), 2022
Abstract High-resolution structural designs attracts researchers to multi-scale topology optimizations (TO) paradigms. With the advances of machine learning (ML) methods, the integration of ML with TO has been attempted in many works. However, most works employ ML in a data-driven paradigm, which requires abundant training data.

Optimal multi-scale matching

Proceedings. 1999 IEEE Computer Society Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (Cat. No PR00149), 2003
The coarse-to-fine search strategy is extensively used in current reported research. However, it has the same problem as any hill climbing algorithm, most importantly, it often finds local instead of global minima. Drawing upon the artificial intelligence literature, we applied an optimal graph search, namely A*, to the problem.
