World's fastest 10 000‐m breakthrough: The XY‐22 well redefines deep‐earth access in the Tarim Basin

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The Tarim Basin in northwestern China hosts one of the world's deepest petroleum systems, exemplified by the XY‐22 ultra‐deep well (bottom depth: 11 116 m; ~220°C, ~145 MPa). This study integrates tectonic mapping, geological cross‐sections, ultraviolet fluorescence microscopy, and optical photothermal infrared (OPTIR) spectroscopy to characterize ...

Reusing depleted oil and gas wells for geothermal energy: Feasibility, challenges, and a decision‐making framework for sustainable conversion

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The graphical abstract presents a structured decision‐support framework for assessing the feasibility of converting depleted oil and gas wells into geothermal energy systems. The left panel illustrates a comprehensive, multi‐stage decision‐making framework progressing from prefeasibility screening and technical–economic analysis to policy alignment ...

Unraveling the Interplay Between Collaborative Governance and Experimentation for Transformative Potential in Circular Water Systems: A Dutch Case Study

open access: yesEnvironmental Policy and Governance, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Freshwater availability is a critical climate change challenge in coastal delta regions. This challenge requires a transformative change toward circular water management. While experimentation and collaborative governance are recognized as enablers of transformative change, their interaction remains complex and insufficiently understood ...

Cheating immune secret sharing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We consider secret sharing with binary shares. This model allows us to use the well developed theory of cryptographically strong boolean functions. We prove that for given secret sharing, the average cheating probability over all cheating and original ...

Conspiracy Beliefs as a Metacognitive Dimension of Intergroup Attitudes: A Novel Framework for Interventions

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Social Psychology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Apart from their well‐established associations with individual characteristics, experiences of existential threats and either objective or perceived structural circumstances in which people live, conspiracy beliefs are now being increasingly recognised as a reflection of group‐related motivations, identity‐protective motives, prejudice and ...

Visual Secret Sharing Techniques without Pixel Expansion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
[[abstract]]Unlike traditional cryptography, visual secret sharing technology decodes a ciphertext by using human?s eyes. The traditional visual secret sharing technology must go through pixel expansion and decomposition to produce some meaningless ...

A computational ghost imaging multi-party collaborative decryption method for low-resolution images

open access: yesJournal of King Saud University: Computer and Information Sciences
Computational ghost imaging (CGI) is an imaging technique that uses the second-order correlation properties of optical fields. It uses random illumination patterns to illuminate the object, collects the signal via a single-pixel bucket detector, and ...

Learning From and Through Evaluation: An Examination of Practice

open access: yesNew Directions for Evaluation, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In this article, we provide an analysis across the foregoing practice‐based case exemplars to understand antecedent conditions and influences, learning‐oriented evaluation strategies, estimates of strategy success or potential success, and factors that either enable or hinder the extent to which learning from and through evaluation occurs. The

A study of secure Boolean-based multiple secret image sharing scheme [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
