Caching Gain in Wireless Networks with Fading: A Multi-User Diversity Perspective
We consider the effect of caching in wireless networks where fading is the dominant channel effect. First, we propose a one-hop transmission strategy for cache-enabled wireless networks, which is based on exploiting multi-user diversity gain.

Long-term stability of fibre-optic transmission for multi-object spectroscopy
We present an analysis of the long-term stability of fibre-optic transmission properties for fibre optics in astronomy. Data from six years of operation of the AAOmega multi-object spectrograph at the Anglo-Australian Telescope is presented.

Degrees of Freedom and Achievable Rate of Wide-Band Multi-cell Multiple Access Channels With No CSIT
This paper considers a $K$-cell multiple access channel with inter-symbol interference. The primary finding of this paper is that, without instantaneous channel state information at the transmitters (CSIT), the sum degrees-of-freedom (DoF) of the ...

Design and simulation of 1.28 Tbps dense wavelength division multiplex system suitable for long haul backbone [PDF]
Wavelength division multiplex (WDM) system with on / off keying (OOK) modulation and direct detection (DD) is generally simple to implement, less expensive and energy efficient. The determination of the possible design capacity limit, in terms of the bit

A Compact Source for Quantum Image Processing with Four-wave Mixing in Rubidium-85
We have built a compact light source for bright squeezed twin-beams at 795\,nm based on four-wave-mixing in atomic $^{85}$Rb vapor. With a total optical power of 400\,mW derived from a free running diode laser and a tapered amplifier to pump the four ...
