Trihalomethanes (THMs) formation in multi-stage flash (MSF) distillation plants

Desalination, 1989
Abstract The presence of trihalomethanes in distillate produced by multi-stage flash (MSF) distillation plant is monitored. The study covers the four THMs compounds; namely, chloroform (CHCl3), bromodichloromethane (CHCl2Br), dibromochloromethane (CHClBr2) and bromoform (CHBr3).

Improved productivity of the MSF (multi-stage flashing) desalination plant by increasing the TBT (top brine temperature)

Energy, 2016
Abstract The evaporating process is very important in the system concerned with liquid foods, seawater distillation and wastewater treatment, which is to concentrate the aqueous solution by evaporating the pure water usually at a vacuum state. In general, the liquid concentration is performed through the membrane, electro-dialysis, and evaporation ...

On the brine re-utilization of a multi-stage flashing (MSF) desalination plant

Desalination, 2016
Abstract Although the current desalination market has shifted to the reverse osmosis (RO) process, the thermal process is still main in the Gulf countries. The thermal desalination processes are commonly classified into the multi-stage flashing (MSF) and the multi-effect distillation (MED).

A full decade of operating experience on Al-Khobar-II multi-stage flash (MSF) evaporators (1982–1992)

Desalination, 1994
Abstract The Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) has been operating multi-stage flash evaporators in Saudi Arabia for the last 23 years. Along the Gulf coast first medium capacity MSF's (3 × 2.5 mgd) were commissioned in 1973 as Al-Khobar Phase-I [1].

Heat transfer in a multi-stage flash/ fluidized bed evaporator (MSF/FBE).

Desalination, 1977
Abstract The MSF/FBE process in which a fluidized bed heat exchanger is used represents an attractive process for water distillation. High heat transfer coefficients obtained at low fluid velocities allow for vertical long-tube condenser configuration with short stage heights.
