On Dependent Multi-State Semi-Coherent Systems Based on Multi-State Joint Signature
Methodology and Computing in Applied Probability, 2021Informally, a `system' consists of several `components' which are connected in some fashion; the system works or fails depending on the working or failure of its components. Usually, one assumes that the lifetimes (till failure) of the system's components are i.i.d. (with a continuous distribution).

Ordered multi-state system signature and its dynamic version in evaluating used multi-state systems
Probability in the Engineering and Informational Sciences, 2022Signature theory plays an important part in the field of reliability. In this paper, the ordered multi-state system signature and its related properties are discussed based on a life-test of independent and non-identical coherent or mixed systems with independent and identical binary-state components.

Multi-state information system
Proceedings of the annual conference on - ACM'73, 1973MSIS is a large, clinically-oriented system for keeping records of the history, treatment and progress of patients under psychiatric treatment. It is used in large state mental hospitals and in mental health centers and clinics. Currently these facilities are located primarily in the New England area.

Optimization of multi-state elements replacement policy for multi-state systems
2010 Proceedings - Annual Reliability and Maintainability Symposium (RAMS), 2010In this paper, we generalize a multi-state element (MSE) replacement optimization problem to multi-state systems (MSS), in which a global optimal MSE replacement policy is obtained to achieve better outcome than local optimal MSE replacement strategy which does not consider the system performance rate dependency.

Automated test generation for multi-state systems
Proceedings of the 15th annual conference companion on Genetic and evolutionary computation, 2013This paper describes a genetic algorithm based on mutation testing to generate test cases for classes with multiple states. The fitness function is based on the coverability and the killability of the individuals. The paper includes a small empirical section that shows evidences of the ability of the algorithm to generate good test cases.

Microelectronics Reliability, 1977
Abstract This paper presents a Markov model with one successful mode and three mutually exclusive failure modes. Three extra system states are introduced at the repair stage. The state probability equations are developed to obtain system availability and mean time to system failure.

Reliability assessment for fuzzy multi-state systems
International Journal of Systems Science, 2010Fuzzy multi-state system (FMSS) is defined as a multi-state system (MSS) consisting of multi-state elements (MSE) whose performance rates and transition intensities are presented as fuzzy values. Due to the lack, inaccuracy or fluctuation of data, it is oftentimes impossible to evaluate the performance rates and transition intensities of MSE with ...

Multi-state systems with multi-fault coverage
Reliability Engineering & System Safety, 2008Abstract The paper introduces a new model of fault level coverage for multi-state systems in which the effectiveness of recovery mechanisms depends on the coexistence of multiple faults in related elements. Examples of this effect can be found in computing systems, electrical power distribution networks, pipelines carrying dangerous materials, etc ...

Dynamic reliability indices for multi-state system
33rd International Symposium on Multiple-Valued Logic, 2003. Proceedings., 2003The Multi-State System reliability is investigated in this paper. The new class of Reliability Indices is obtained. We have called these indices as Dynamic Reliability Indices. These indices estimate influence upon the Multi-State System reliability by the capacity levels of a system component.

The number of Boltzmann factors in the partition function increases with increasing energy states. The higher energy states might have small Boltzmann factors but are included for completeness. This leads to infinite sums that can sometimes be reduced to a simple partition function to calculate average energy, entropy, and free energy.
