Multi-Storey Steel-Framed Buildings under Natural Fire Conditions

Composite Construction in Steel and Concrete IV, 2002
In this article, a methodology is presented by which the structural behaviour of composite steel framed building under natural fire conditions can be analysed. As a first step, a fire model is employed in order to predict the temperature development in the fire compartment.

Architectural concept for multi-storey apartment building with light steel framing

Steel Construction, 2010
This paper describes a modular, easy-to-build, energy-efficient and affordable architectural concept for multi-storey residential buildings. The design concept evolves from a minimum modular grid that allows multiple combinations while ensuring spatial flexibility, net area optimization and adaptability.

Minimum weight design of multi-bay multi-storey steel frames

Computers & Structures, 1992
Abstract The present paper considers the minimum weight (volume) design of multi-bay multi-storey steel frames according to BS5950. The problems are formulated as nonlinear constrained minimization problems and then solved using numerical optimization techniques.

THE MULTI-STOREY BUILDINDS STEEL FRAMES PROGRESSIVE COLLAPSE MECHANISMS IN FIRE

Modern construction and architecture
An overview of previous studies, dedicated to the vitality of the multi-story building with a steel frame was carried out. Currently, measures are available to increase the multi-story buildings' steel frame vitality in fire, which affects the potential progressive collapse mechanism.

The structural behaviour of steel columns during a compartment fire in a multi-storey braced steel-frame

Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 1999
Test results from a compartment fire in the eight-story steel-framed building at Cardington, have shown that the columns, which were heavily fire protected, were subjected to significant induced moments. These moments, which are ignored in existing fire design methods, were caused by the connected heated steel beams, which were unprotected, expanding ...

OPTIMUM DESIGN OF BEAMS IN MULTI-STOREY STEEL FRAMES USING THE LRFD CRITERIA

Engineering Optimization, 1985
This paper deals with the optimum design of beams in multi-storey steel frames using the recently proposed LRFD criteria. The results are compared with those obtained using the conventional plastic design criteria. The optimization problems which are nonlinear in nature are either solved using an appropriate nonlinear optimization technique or ...

Seismic shear demands in multi-storey steel frames designed to Eurocode 8

Engineering Structures, 2013
Abstract This paper investigates the influence of the frequency content of ground motion, as well as structural parameters and the level of inelasticity, on the shear demands in frames designed to comply with Eurocode 8 provisions. The investigation of the shear demands focuses on both the base shear and individual storey shears.

Performance based design approach for multi-storey concentrically braced steel frames

Steel and Composite Structures, 2016
In this paper, a Performance Based Design (PBD) approach is validated for multi-storey concentrically braced frame (CBF) systems. Direct Displacement Based Design (DDBD) procedure is used and validated by designing 4- and 12-storey CBF buildings. Nonlinear time history analysis (NLTHA) is used to check the performance of the design methodology by ...

STUDY OF THE CONTACT JOINT OF COLUMNS IN STEEL FRAMES OF MULTI-STOREY BUILDINGS.

STRUCTURAL MECHANICS AND ANALYSIS OF CONSTRUCTIONS
A brief description of prefabricated buildings from lightweight metal structures (LMS) is provided. A steel frame with a typical cell of the accepted size (6,0x6,0x3,0 m) is considered. The accepted cross sections of columns and beams are described, which taken from these articles by other authors. An overview of the tests of cross-section columns with
