Multiaxial fatigue criterion with mean stress effect

International Journal of Pressure Vessels and Piping, 1996
Abstract A criterion is developed for multiaxial fatigue life prediction including the mean stress effect. The total strain energy density modified by the weight function associated with mean stress has been used as a damage parameter. A brief description of how Δ W t can be calculated is given.

Small fatigue crack growth under multiaxial stresses

International Journal of Fatigue, 2014
Abstract A significant portion of the fatigue life is typically spent in growth of small cracks. In addition, the stress state in many structures and components is multiaxial. Therefore, the study of small crack growth behaviour with regards to its growth path as well as growth rate under combined stresses can be of great importance in many ...

Estimating Fatigue Due to Cyclic Multiaxial Stress

Journal of Vibration and Acoustics, 1987
A new expression similar to the Huber-von-Mises-Hencky criterion for multiaxial stresses, also known as the distortional energy theory, is derived from the second order stress invariants of the stress tensor, rather than from the deviatoric stress tensor, as in the derivation of the Huber-von Mises-Hencky criterion.

Multiaxial Stress-Strain Creep Analysis for Notches

1994
A method for predicting time-dependent stresses and strains in the case of localized creep has been developed. This method is based on strain energy density considerations and is an extension of the method previously developed by the authors for localized time-independent plasticity problems.

Creep and cavity growth under multiaxial stresses

Philosophical Magazine A, 1981
Abstract A consideration of cavity growth by the acquisition of vacancies diffusing along grain boundaries in a polycrystalline material under stress at elevated temperatures leads to the evaluation of the influence of a multiaxial stress system on cavities on grain boundaries at any angle to the principal stresses.

Creep Prediction for Concrete Under Multiaxial Stress

ACI Journal Proceedings, 1972
PREVIOUS TESTS ASSUME THAT FOR THE PREDICTIONS OF CREEP STRAINS RESULTING FROM MULTIAXIAL STRESSES, THE POISSON'S RATIO FOR CREEP IS CONSTANT AND EQUAL TO THE STATIC ELASTIC VALUE. TO PREDICT CREEP UNDER MULTIAXIAL LOADING, THIS ASSUMPTION WAS COMBINED WITH THE RATE OF FLOW METHOD.

Macroscopic Brittle Fracture Criterion Under Multiaxial Stresses

Journal of Engineering Materials and Technology, 1980
On the basis of traditional fracture criteria and numerous data on the fracture under multiaxial stresses, we propose a new macroscopic criterion for brittle fracture in the state where in biaxial or triaxial stresses, compressive stress predominates. We base our theory on the concept of fracture mechanics, especially of mode II fracture. Our criterion

Fatigue Evaluation Incorporating Multiaxiality of Stress States

Volume 1: Codes and Standards, 2005
In this work the effects of multiaxiality on the fatigue evaluation by the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code procedures have been assessed. The conservatism associated with the Ke factor has been critically appraised for fatigue evaluation using a design example of a feed water nozzle subjected to pressure and thermal fluctuations.

Fatigue failure under multiaxial states of stress

1997
Multiaxial stress states are encountered in the majority of mechanical/structural components, e.g. shafts, beams, pressure vessels, machine elements, etc. Indeed the very early investigations into fatigue were on shafts of rotating machines where bending and torsional couples were applied to simulate service loads [1].
