Seabed classification using multibeam echosounder

The method of seabed identification and classification from multibeam sonar echoes is presented. The proposed approach is based on calculation of a set of parameters of an echo envelope, similarly as in seafloor classification using single beam echosounder.

Multibeam echosounder calibration with split-aperture transmission

Results are described for a multibeam echosounder calibration experiment in which the elevation angle of a standard spherical target was estimated using a split aperture geometry on the transmit array. This is an extension of the two transmitters — one receiver concept described by Messer et al. (IEEE TAES 32–3, 1158–1164, 1996).

Improvement of multibeam echosondeur bottom detection

Concerning bathymetric multibeam echosondeur systems, the interferometric technique is widely used to get the altitude of an illuminated seafloor section beam. Classical methods only use the zero crossing instant of phase difference to obtain the sea depth. Nevertheless, the phase difference gives more information near the zero crossing.

Automatic processing of the multibeam echosounding data based on CUBE algorithm
