Postprocessing and signal corrections for multibeam echosounder images
Oceans '97. MTS/IEEE Conference Proceedings, 2002Multibeam echosounders own the attractive ability to simultaneously provide a bathymetric map and a sonar image of an insonified area. Nevertheless, their increasing resolution and data rate underline classical approximations used by the manufacturers in the real time algorithms. This leads to artefacts in sonar images and to difficulties in geological

Delaunay Triangulation Algorithms Useful for Multibeam Echosounding
Journal of Surveying Engineering, 2003The Delaunay triangulation is a widely appreciated and investigated mathematical model for topographic surface represen- tation. After a brief theoretical description, six possible basic algorithms to construct a Delaunay triangulation are analyzed and properties that can be exploited for multibeam echosounder data processing are investigated.

Panel-based bathymetric SLAM with a multibeam echosounder
2017 IEEE Underwater Technology (UT), 2017A bathymetric Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) algorithm is presented which is capable of mapping elevation changes in undulating seabed terrain and simultaneously localizing the vehicles position relative to the constructed terrain elevation map. The algorithm enables to marine vehicles navigate and build a map autonomously in a GPS-denied

Statistical characterization of multibeam echosounder data
IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society. OCEANS'98. Conference Proceedings (Cat. No.98CH36259), 2002The statistical studies of high resolution sonar images recorded by a 95 kHz multibeam echosounder prove that the Rayleigh law is no more adapted to the description of the textured sonar images. Seafloor reverberation statistical models have been put forward to interpret those high resolution particularities and to propose the correlated K-law ...

Multibeam echosounder calibration with split-aperture transmission
2014 Oceans - St. John's, 2014Results are described for a multibeam echosounder calibration experiment in which the elevation angle of a standard spherical target was estimated using a split aperture geometry on the transmit array. This is an extension of the two transmitters — one receiver concept described by Messer et al. (IEEE TAES 32–3, 1158–1164, 1996).

The development of the multibeam echosounder: An historical account
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1998The first paper on narrow-beam echosounding was published in 1960. Since then, the advantages of the principle of multibeam swath bathymetry for seabed mapping has been recognized by many institutions working in the field of area mapping underwater. We intend to review the development the multibeam echosounder has undergone from the ‘‘beginning’’ until

Improvement of multibeam echosondeur bottom detection
SPIE Proceedings, 2004Concerning bathymetric multibeam echosondeur systems, the interferometric technique is widely used to get the altitude of an illuminated seafloor section beam. Classical methods only use the zero crossing instant of phase difference to obtain the sea depth. Nevertheless, the phase difference gives more information near the zero crossing.

Experience of working out and modernization of multibeam echosounders
Oceans '99. MTS/IEEE. Riding the Crest into the 21st Century. Conference and Exhibition. Conference Proceedings (IEEE Cat. No.99CH37008), 2003Summary form only given, substantially as follows:- The primary aim of multibeam sonar is to develop the device for direct measurement of bottom reverberation to study regions with different seafloor morphology. This task determines the configuration and processing method of the device installation on towed body for measuring near the bottom, using of ...

Automatic processing of the multibeam echosounding data based on CUBE algorithm
2013 IEEE International Conference on Information and Automation (ICIA), 2013Based on combined uncertainty and bathymetry estimator (CUBE) algorithm, a dynamic linear model (DLM) including horizontal and vertical soundings data uncertainties is discussed. Kalman filtering and multiple estimations are utilized to calculate the grid nodes.
