Diagnosing and Dealing with Multicollinearity

Western Journal of Nursing Research, 1990
The purpose of this article was to increase nurse researchers' awareness of the effects of collinear data in developing theoretical models for nursing practice. Collinear data distort the true value of the estimates generated from ordinary least-squares analysis.

Multicollinearity in cross-sectional regressions

Journal of Geographical Systems, 2006
The paper examines robustness of results from cross-sectional regression paying attention to the impact of multicollinearity. It is well known that the reliability of estimators (least-squares or maximum-likelihood) gets worse as the linear relationships between the regressors become more acute.

Multicollinearity: A Bayesian Interpretation

The Review of Economics and Statistics, 1973
T HE problem of collinear data sets in the context of the univariate multiple regression model has generated a confusing array of papers, comments and footnotes. Perusal of this literature does not lead the reader to conclude that the problem has even been rigorously defined.

On the Misconception of Multicollinearity in Detection of Moderating Effects: Multicollinearity Is Not Always Detrimental

Multivariate Behavioral Research, 2010
Due to its extensive applicability and computational ease, moderated multiple regression (MMR) has been widely employed to analyze interaction effects between 2 continuous predictor variables. Accordingly, considerable attention has been drawn toward the supposed multicollinearity problem between predictor variables and their cross-product term.

Assessment of Multicollinearity

Sociological Methods & Research, 1975
Interdependence among explanatory variables is a common condition for sociological analyses. It may markedly affect the stability of estimates of parameters obtained from least-squares regression. Multicollinearity is viewed as a problem which poses two questions for the analyst: how severe is the multicollinearity and what is its effect on the ...
