The face is central to primate multicomponent signals [PDF]
AbstractA wealth of experimental and observational evidence suggests that faces have become increasingly important in the communication system of primates over evolutionary time and that both the static and moveable aspects of faces convey considerable information. Therefore, whenever there is a visual component to any multicomponent signal the face is

On Demodulation, Ridge Detection, and Synchrosqueezing for Multicomponent Signals [PDF]
In this paper, we present a novel technique for the retrieval of the modes of a multicomponent signal using a time-frequency (TF) representation of the signal. Our approach is based on a novel ridge extraction method that takes into account the fact that the TF representation is both discrete in time and frequency, followed by a demodulation procedure.

A Novel Thresholding Technique for the Denoising of Multicomponent Signals [PDF]
This paper addresses the issues of the denoising and retrieval of the components of multicomponent signals from their short-time Fourier transform (STFT). After having recalled the hard-thresholding technique, in the STFT context, we develop a new thresholding technique by exploiting some limitations of the former.

In this article, we define a new ridge detector that enables to localize strong interference in multicomponent signals in the time-frequency (TF) plane. Each mode of a multicomponent signal can usually be associated with a ridge in the TF plane, but this

A chirplet transform-based mode retrieval method for multicomponent signals with crossover instantaneous frequencies [PDF]
In nature and engineering world, the acquired signals are usually affected by multiple complicated factors and appear as multicomponent nonstationary modes. In such and many other situations, it is necessary to separate these signals into a finite number

A Novel Ridge Detector for Nonstationary Multicomponent Signals: Development and Application to Robust Mode Retrieval [PDF]
Time-frequency analysis is often used to study non stationary multicomponent signals, which can be viewed as the surperposition of modes. To understand such signals, it is essential to identify the ridges associated with the modes in the time-frequency ...

In this paper, our goal is to investigate local chirp rate (CR) estimation in noisy multicomponent signals. The focus is put on improving a specific type of local CR estimator used in the second order synchrosqueezing transform, which proves to be very ...

A New Adaptive Technique for Multicomponent Signals Reassignment Based on Synchrosqueezing Transform
In this paper, we tackle the issue of making adaptive the reassignment of multicomponent signals using synchrosqueezing transforms. Indeed, depending on the frequency modulation of the modes making up these signals, the reassignment results with ...

Local maximum synchrosqueezes form scaling-basis chirplet transform
In recent years, time-frequency analysis (TFA) methods have received widespread attention and undergone rapid development. However, traditional TFA methods cannot achieve the desired effect when dealing with nonstationary signals.

Alpha Transmitter Signals Observed by the Van Allen Probes: Ducted Versus Nonducted Propagation
The interaction of very low frequency transmitter signals with radiation belt electrons depends ultimately on their wave normal angles. In the equatorial interaction region, these can be either low (ducted propagation) or comparatively large (nonducted ...
